That's fine and all, but where are the checks and balances? Is it possible for this denizen to decide "this person isn't damned, they just screwed up royally." Better yet, when does the denizen cuff the city leader for taking up their valuable time with meaningless damnations?

To the denizens, if Thiodyne declares someone is damned they are damned, because Thiodyne is the final arbiter.

The only problem is that Thiodyne's actions are chosen by one person who goes into it with a pre-determined knowledge of the outcome, so... in an OOC sense, it's kind of a waste of time and can make the denizens look kind of foolish. It adds a lot of RP potential, though.

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't matter what the defence does, because if the city leader thinks that person is damned, they are damned. No way to get out of it. The city leader is judge, jury, executioner. No vote=no chance.

They can say 'This person is not worthy of punishment' and 'This person is worthy of punishment but not social pariah-ness, and the council will decide an appropriate punishment (such as a disfavour/outcitizening/etc)'. I'm going to leave a lot of the internal mechanics under the veil, since only the Star Council knows them, and I think they prefer it to be left that way. cool.gif

That's fine, so long as it isn't a "I think this person is damned, therefore they are no matter what"

See, we do things much simpler in the Woods. The four results that Bandrui can produce (at least, these are the ones I"ve been told) are 1) Nothing 2) Death 3) Multiple Deaths 4) Temporary ostracization. Quick and simple!

But seriously, I love that New Celest has this. I had fun enough being condemned in Serenwilde, killed by Ladies, Selene, and an ice nymph (totally didn't expect that one, since I"d never seen or heard about it), and THEN publicly executed, but the Celestian system is awesome too.

EDIT: Wait, the city leaders decide how the judgement will come out? If I"m not mistaken, with Bandrui, it's random.

Then again, you can't disfavour a denizen when they refuse to shut up either tongue.gif.

If a Mob gets pissy, there are two ways of punishing it. Slap it down, or Slap. It. DOWN. What else are you supposed to do?

You could kill the denizen, then unenemy the parties responsible. Seen that done in the Glomdoring logs before.

Celest has laws against that.

... Glomdoring does not. happy.gif

Lawliet, assuming you have the respect, one of the reasons the Council may not have undamned you is because half of us don't know the syntax. Ilyarin does. I sure as heck don't. I've messaged him to rectify this problem.
Ishant2009-08-21 00:36:02
It's a shame killing an avatar would be more than slightly controversial ie XI (Ishant condoning it moreso), but that's a fun thing about Glom I guess you can almost one or anything without consequence.

No offence, Eventru, but if I saw that I would know it was ALL you, so its seems like rp masturbation to a large degree, filling city with a cacophony of abusive voices (the flavour text for magic card Phyrexian Arena comes to mind - An audience of one with the malice of thousands). I do think that judge denizen was made for you to have fun though tongue.gif .

As a new player, with a new character, and coming from an IRE game where things are pretty different... I really enjoyed seeing this. I know I wasn't the one damned, but it's fun to see the city's denizens coming alive in a realistic way. And the "executioner" is fun, too. Props.

God forbid a population scorning, insulting, publicly ridiculing a Damned member of their society. Horrid horrid RP Eventru. You should stop flexing that e-peen and next time have the NPC's console Lawliet. It's not her fault she did what she did... oh wait...

Seriously. And aren't the kin people who have "fallen out of the Light" too?
Malicia2009-08-21 00:48:26
Seriously... just what -is- the problem here?

Someone removed the Idiots section from the forums, and now we need somewhere else to complain about inane things.

Boredom?

I don't really mind this event, except that I was given that time limit and that every SINGLE time I walk past meleris he's all spammy, tempting to gather a large group at the pool and just run back and forth on and off the pool tongue.gif

I thought they were just everyday citizens who didn't have much fervor for the Light, a lot like people IRL who are technically religious but don't really have any fire for it. And then you give them their globes and suddenly they're evangelical or something.

Pretty much right. They're average citizens, but they're asking for ways to serve the Light, so you bring them globes. So take that as you will!
