You guys act like XP is a toxic venom. Enjoy it. Embrace it. let it consume you. Bwahahaha

It's not even the XP right now. It's people turning into flaming mentally challenged wangs over the XP.

Dude, that's Revan you're talking to. Those are his people. rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

edit: Revan, your post made me lolhard. Thanks tongue.gif

Revan is usually considered the poster boy for XP trains.

Well well well, I have to say that this is awesome. The whole point of aetherbashing needing a crew (pilot, empath, 3 gunners) was to foster good relations and team work. Is it not amazing that it got to the point that Lusternia was further divided? The (now minority) people who stay on Prime, and then those who go on an aethership. Further, those in aetherships have only around 4 others to talk to (which is not possible sometimes, thank you to the gift of triggers).

Could we include an ability in Planar that lets you communicate with people on Aetherspace? Yes, I know that there's one in Aethercraft, but what if you're trans Planar? Isn't it feasible that you have the ability to talk to people on the aetherspace of the same plane (Prime people can talk to people on Prime aetherspace, etc.)?

You need Broadcast in Planar anyways to be heard.
Esano2009-08-24 10:48:55
The one in Aetherspace is a def that is given to everyone on the ship, so you can just switch out your empath with someone who has it at the start of a trip. Planar would save a bit of hassle, I suppose, but there's nothing bad with planarbond.

I've been on my fair share of Aetherhunts, but no where near what some of you are doing, I've only gained three levels off it in the whole time of the experience bump.

Quite a few have made 10-20 off it.

I'm conflicted in two ways about experience as a whole now anyways:

1. Hunting and Bashing gives absolutely crap EXP to me now, I'm a human, nearly always have a Harmony Blessing on me and hunt Astral quite regularly, plus undershard or whatever the hell it's called. Yet I can't make censor.gif for exp doing that, it crawls ungodly slow, like gaining a level every 120 hours of straight bashing (Week or so if I really lay in)

2. Aetherhunting is really good exp now. But honestly I think everyone is using it because there is such a shitty balance of exp from other things, Influencing, Bashing, quests etc.

My solution:

Increase the experience for bashing/influencing so it makes you still work, but not to the exclusion of even being able to sit and censor.gif with someone at your nexus or in your manse.

And set a limit on how much you can aetherhunt, similiar to how much you can learn in ship proficiencies.

This way you don't have people skyrocketing to the top of the level list with triggers (I use em too so I'm not claiming innocence) and people who actually go out and kill critters, do quests, earn EXP faster then old people have sex.

Eh eh? Anyone agree?

Prime EXP doesn't need increasing, bashing everything except Titan on prime is relatively easy once you get into a groove.

Aetherspace, the EXP needs nerfing massively and it needs making harder. But still usable.

I still have yet for someone to take me aetherhunting before its nerfed. I'm sick of normal bashing and its getting pretty obvious what the main experience income is on the Basin with 2 people on prime and 93902 on another plane
Moiraine2009-08-24 13:10:35
Hey, let's go aetherbash! I hear there's some juicy exp-filled ships out there, just a-waitin'.

Would you rather me sing 99 bottles of ale Fania, or talk about how the grid makes you look 'matronly'?

I'll just steal your ale if you sing. If you every call me matronly again I'll shove... hee hee okay /forumRP. For those of you who are interested it ends with Razenth decapitated head on my wall.

Seriously, though, I'd hate to see Aetherhunting nerfed to the point where people don't go hunting anymore. Right now Aetherhunting is like a shiny new toy. People will get tired of it, though I don't think it would be fair (or even as fun) if half the basin were demis when the dust settled.
Jozen2009-08-24 15:25:23
People won't get tired of easy xp. srsly. Think.

If everyone is Demi they might skip a day or two of the aetherhunting every now and again.

I really don't care if everyone gets demi off two weeks of 15 hours a day aetherhunting with scripts and toggles, but I somehow think that they are doing themselves an injustice as all they have to look forward to now is gathering essence and waiting for their zap message to be approved.

When you're getting a 20% exp boost for being human with a constant harmony blessing up, and you're killing everything from Linked Astral, to Gorgogs, to Underdark :censor:, to catacombs and it takes you killing fourty creatures to bust 5 exp percentage.

There is a problem with EXP.

Yeah, it's crazy going out all the time. Not really that fun either, especially if you end up on an aethership where people don't talk, or can't talk. I'd like to be a demi too, but it's not worth having an utter lack of fun because of this. Although, there is very little fighting going on because of it, so I'm enjoying that. Nothing is more annoying than being in the middle of a good conversation, and then having to end it because of a battle. Plus the RP thing, not much of that happening... Like everyone dropped off the face of the Basin.

Huh, I've never really had this problem (no discussions while aetherbashing), but then again, I've been aetherbashing with people who are already demigods.

Even with it, I think the person needs broadcast, as I hardly ever hear anything when Viynain does it. Might just be bugged, though, or nobody could be talking.

Usually there is some talk, but even with people who are normally talkative it can be difficult. People get caught up in doing nothing while aetherhunting.

And being more than a meat shield in any large scale combat?

Um, yet again you post something which makes me lol. 40 creatures to break 5% XP is not many at all, once you hit level 80 bashing all levels up to 99 takes about the same amount of time. When the difficulty increases your crit rate increases to counteract it. It really isn't hard to get into the high 90s just bashing prime/astral, especially as a monk.

There is nothing wrong with prime/astral bashing, aetherspace is still obscene though, a 50% cut on what we're getting now (after the first 20% cut) seems about right. Even at 50% of the current rate its still WELL worth doing.

The Karibideans being able to steal power from your ship is an excellent touch too, its hard to spot unless you keep spamming ship status so they can kill you by draining all your power now, and they drain a lot per hit.

There's actually a message that your ship has been drained so if you're paying attention you'll see it. However you have to keep on your toes because I think you drained for around 40 energy so two or three hits and kaboom! Not a big deal because 5 minutes of hunting and you've recovered from your loss tongue.gif

I did a back of the envelope calculation here using astral as a reference. Personally I don't even like the idea of aetherhunting as being a viable source of experience (because it's so easily automated and botting is against my mudding principals) but if you must then my opinion is that an 80% cut on top of the 20% still makes aetherspace hunting worthwhile.

I'd still aetherhunt regardless for fun (that's why I play) and to explore.
