There's actually a message that your ship has been drained so if you're paying attention you'll see it. However you have to keep on your toes because I think you drained for around 40 energy so two or three hits and kaboom! Not a big deal because 5 minutes thirty seconds of hunting and you've recovered from your loss
Fixed. Also, I'm glad to hear that my OCD at keeping the ship's fuel reserves topped off might just save my butt some day. Too many go around with only 20 or so power in the tank >_>.

Yeah, I'm empathing on a ship right now and well, I've got time to write a post. I honestly have to do nothing. Getting level 80 was nice but I'm also going stir-crazy. I don't really have to touch my keyboard except for once every twenty minutes or so.
How do you think I feel? Combateering, I had enough time to write a well-thought out email.

And being more than a meat shield in any large scale combat?
I'm fine with that as 'Living Shield' is my rank in Ur'Guard.

I did a back of the envelope calculation here using astral as a reference. Personally I don't even like the idea of aetherhunting as being a viable source of experience (because it's so easily automated and botting is against my mudding principals) but if you must then my opinion is that an 80% cut on top of the 20% still makes aetherspace hunting worthwhile.
I'd still aetherhunt regardless for fun (that's why I play) and to explore.

80% on top of the 20% would neuter aetherbashing experience and it would become non-viable for the majority. When that happens, interest in aetherspace will drop and we will be back where we started. I haven't been able to go bashing for a while so I don't know what it's like right now, but I expect it could still be due for futher decreases. (NOT 80%).

Of course, no matter what the number is, you'll have plenty of people who, at the first sign of a nerf will throw a tantrum and threaten to leave the game if their easy button is removed (don't worry, not you Ilyarin ). But it does have to be done, if the numbers these past few days are any indication at all.

The current system basically pushes me towards quitting Lusty again, this time likely for good. Way I see it, is.. I put in a lot of time and effort to get to just where I'm at and that's not far. And a few intrepid and somewhat lucky groups have quite easily just got XP trained well above me in level in the span of a week maybe. Nevermind my concerns about it causing a polarizing minority on Prime and absolutely killing any potential for novices to consistently have other players to converse with.
Nevermind a lot of people just randomly disappear to go aetherhunting without telling others even at inopportune and bad times.

The biggest issue with a aetherspace experience nerf, not saying one isn't needed, but if it is made equal to prime bashing or even solo astral bashing then what is the incentive to go into aetherspace on a regular basis?
Unknown2009-08-24 20:11:28

Its enjoyable? Just because something doesn't get you demi in three days doesn't make it less enjoyable. (This is assuming you don't auto everything)

How about the potential for thousands of extra power with all the vortices around as they are now? Glom got almost 2K in 5-6 hours I think?
Ilyarin2009-08-24 20:20:47
So assuming a crew of six, each person brought in about 50 power an hour. Doesn't seem massively impressive to me, really.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice. But I wouldn't flock to aetherspace for 50p/hour.

Rate isn't as important as availability. A single person can get all the essence from water/earth/xion alone if they time it right and have a bit of luck. Adding people to that search will increase the chance you'll get every last bit of essence, but won't really increase power income. A crew spending a few hours getting power from a vastly plentiful source with a few others getting the more potent (but limited) means will noticeably increase that income.
Something also to consider - if that harvest was or wasn't done with the power siphoning artifact.

50% reduction on what it is currently, is still the equivalent of a 6-7 person astral bash on Scorpions (if done effectively) with no insanity and no costs associated, especially as access to city/commune aetherships is very viable.
Razenth2009-08-24 20:53:46
On the issue of power: the ship I fly averages around 200 power per half hour.
If she had hourglass, that would be doubled of course.

Nah. The current rate is the same as a proficient "ur'bash" on astral.

This is just one more point on the Oh, M GEE meter, I have gone down 10 ranks in the past 2 days. I wish the admin wouldn't keep repeating their mistakes. They should know if something is OP before they bring it into the game. I urge them to make changes not on the drop of a dime but actual testing would be cool /thumbsup.
To be honest though I think they just spin a wheel, what ever the wheel lands on gets a new OP update.

Heh, you know these changes were live on a test server for about a week, right? Don't insult them unnecessarily.

Seriously man, calm down. Changes like this need to be placed on the live game so they can be balanced out. They tested it on the test server, thought they found a number that would work, put it on the live game, and found out it wasn't working like they thought it would. They are now trying to fix it with help from the players. Instead of making a bunch of noise offer helpful suggestions.
As for Aetherspace I still think it will go back to uninteresting when the experience is compleatly balanced out. I'd rather see hunting made complicated with good rewards then simple with ok rewards. At the moment non-automated hunting is still two or three commands that you repeat over and over again, no different from bashing. If you're a empath with a good captain you barely have to touch the keyboard. And with the change in constructs we have no need for aethership battles. In general aetherspace is still fairly boring.
