This is a completely fallacious argument.
Most people I know at Demigod, and heck even less, don't bother with jewelers, we all use brooches, and a lot of them we rune so they never decay. Herbalists are always going to be needed assuming you are not one already. Tailors, only a small population of people care about tailoring beyond great robes/splendours, so you having tailoring won't affect anything.
Heck by the time you get to demi, you are generally not buying much of anything off tradeskills anymore. The few things you are buying are likely going to be in skills you can't get. On top of all that, there is the essence cost to get the tradeskill PLUS the 300 credits to trans it (which also makes every tradeskill bonus a 300 credit artifact). Quite frankly, not every demi can afford it, nor will want to spend that much time/RL money just for a minor buff.
If anything, demigods with multiple tradeskills will help the in game economy:
random orgmate: "Oh gee it would be nice to find a tailor and jeweler. Pity we have none awake"
demigod: Oh hey I have both of those tradeskills. What was it you needed?

Spot on. People with more tradeskills will not ruin the economy, especially if it's a smaller subset of the game. It will help people find what they need slightly easier, but they'll still have to buy it.

They're just overreacting like the same people who did when communes/cities got enchants/alchemy.

Economy is hardly the issue I was poking at, I just merely made a comment to point out a potential concern without fleshing out the idea.
Romero nailed it on the head.

If admins can seriously look at the arguments against this idea through game balance alone, economy aside, that shows exactly whats wrong with things with imbalance. More perks for higher level players who can afford it is not good.
Besides what MMO would consider multiple crafting trades endgame. This isn't even a good idea. More bashing, stories, quests, higher level content.

Heh, and you can see how the economy collapsed, tradeskill RP was ruined, and all these sorts of horrible things happened as predicted when it finally came in, eh? Eh?!
Really, there are many ways to keep your issues in check via having only 1 trade active at a time, staggered cost to learn more trades, having only 1 trans trade ability active at a time, etc.

Why is it a bad thing to try to look for potential issues? Rather than assume everything will sail smoothly? Prepare for the worst sounds like a better strategy.
I like your ideas Soj, and I think if they were to go this route they should strongly take your concept into consideration.
Personally, I'm apathetic about the idea of having more tradeskills, balance issue or whatever aside.

Me too actually, I'd probably only take 1 more trade myself, I prefer the shop more, but I certainly welcome new options as a demi.

That's what this thread is all about! Keep them coming!

I'd prefer the essence shop, I haven't even managed to trans 1 trade skill yet. ):
