So, I've been playing as a Ninjakari for a couple weeks now and trying combat as Acrobatics. I'm Trans in Ninjakari and Acrobatics and Mythical Stealth. I've bee practicing kata forms and find that once hindered/shields/rebounding or the target leaves I'm at huge disadvantages. Single Form katas seem much better and faster, as when the target shields I'm able to use raze katas on the move. The issue is, I'm finding I can't get the flow of our combat well and I'm now thinking of going to a different guild. So the question is, should I stick to Ninjakari and pray I figure out a strategy to fight with, or someone really nice gives me advice ... or should I switch to another guild.
I'd like to stick to Magnagora as I love the RP and the feel there, not to mention some friends I have there. I don't feel like I would do well as a knight as I have enough credits to retrans, but I won't have enough to rune any weapons. I'm looking for a class that will both be fun and eventually once I get demigod, be great for both solo and group combat at top tier.
I'm leaning towards Geomancers... maybe as a weaver or TK. Maybe Nihilist or Caco are considerations also.
If anyone would be kind enough, with experience of these guilds in concerns to pvp, explain which would be a better choice.. or if I should just stick it out until the ninjakari path of enlightenment awakens within me...

Talk to your GC for some advice on fighting and your katas. Monks kick ass in PvP and PvE. If you still can't figure it out, Geomancers are a good choice, as are Ur'Guard, even though you don't want to go warrior.
I myself know jack and :censor: about monk combat, otherwise I might be able to help you out some.

Our GC, while a nice guy, seems to be trying to relearn all the ways to fight also. Infact I don't think there are any ninjakari that do well in combat that I've seen or heard of in awhile.
Everiine2009-09-13 20:43:18
That's because monks just took a well earned nerf, so everyone is trying to relearn how things can work.

If you know what you're doing or who to talk to, if you solve my riddle, that person would be able to help you.

I heard Geomancers may be a good option due to being well rounded in all forms of combat and that demenses have a huge influence in groups. How are they in solo combat, I see Ceren's name mentioned alot as a great Geomancer and being able to handle groups of people.. and I've heard the same said of many lesser geomancers being able to kill very well and hold their own.
Also hearing bards with the illusoryself are really insane at demigod...

I think you talked to me 2 weeks ago, which at that point in time, I had had barely anytime to even look at the skill changes.
That being said, talking to Yukio would be a good thing. I know he's had plenty of time to experiment and even before the update messed with my mind (not that I was great before), he was still more knowledgeable.

I've been practicing night and day on different kata forms and I've come up with a few that are decent, but nothing I would consider viable for top-tier fighting yet. We have a few things bugged which also hinders some of our combos, which I'm unsure of when they will be fixed. As for pvp though, our chain drag and some of our attacks are great for group, but for solo fighting I'd hold off for now until we get some improvements... or go Geomancer/Bard at demi

If you can't figure out monk, you're going to fail as a bard. Bard combat is nice because it's not credit-intensive, but bard combat does not come with training wheels like certain other archetypes.

I know you asked for skilled Geomancers, but you get me instead. Geomancers can be very good combatants as long as you pick a psionic path (having had experience on the recieving side of the pain, I can say this with a degree of certainty.) Dreamweavers and runists have more passive attacks through fuse/embed (which is the same skill with different names (and as long as you're in your demesne)) but you give up most of your 1 on 1 fighting ability. There's a reason that virtually all mages go TP or TK.
Anyway, everything I know about dreamweaving: Dreamweavers are especially bad 1v1, because to use most of your attacks the target has to either be asleep or have a punctured aura. Now, sleep lasts a fraction of a second unless you can strip kafe, which requires a sleep attack on a target that's already asleep. Good luck with that. Or you could use punctured aura, which before it is cured lasts long enough for you to get 1 affliction in, or 2 if you spend 1 power. Then you have to puncture the aura again. There's no way to hide a punctured aura affliction either, because blackout or sleep will cause the puncture to fail. The good news is that whatever afflictions you get in are masked. The bad news is they aren't all that great. If you can survive long enough to use it, deepsleep is really annoying to whoever is trying to kill you and pretty much shuts down timed instakills. Blackout/chasm is how I win pretty much every fight that I actually win. I've never found dreambody to be useful in fights. Group or 1 on 1. Ever. Srsly.

Thank you , so if Geomancer, then TK/TP are the path to take. I figured it would be hard or expensive to make targets fall asleep as a weaver.

Just be careful in PvP, because most geomancer races are pretty weak and have low con. Then again, that's what's expected when you lead a sedimentary lifestyle.

Hate you, Vibeke.
But you're wrong anyway, viscanti have an unnaturaly high con for mages.

Just as a note: Bard combat is super, super simple. Very straightforward. Few moving parts to deal with.
