The multiple zap idea sounds good (if it wouldn't take up tons of resources to change), although letting demigods choose their zap damage type might mean that almost all zaps would still be one type, just not necessarily electricity.

Well, I think it'd be nice as you'd be able to reflavour your zaps too. Right now, all zaps must reflect that they deal electricity damage, but take a look at... it's Asmodea's zap right? That'd be far better to deal cold damage since it's essentially a blast of cold winter air. Sure, everyone's gonna be using fire-zaps all over, but zaps are already only mediocre that won't kill alone. I think it's an acceptable price to pay to make zaps a bit more damaging (could always lower their base damage) for the option of a wider range of zaps. Long range claw strikes, mental terror from the sky and literally forcing the air out of others... there's so much fun that could be made with zaps.

Just a note: Ascendants should get more goodies than demigods! What do you think should go to demigods and what should be ascendants only?

Personally, I feel that having Demigods and Ascendents get entirely seperate abilities would be quite alright. They're diferent. An Ascendant is a Vernal, a demi-god is a baby Elder.

Ascendants already have a skillset, that seems like enough goodies. Time to baby demigods some.

It could always be the same stuff, but the essence cost is (very, very) slightly less than the Demigod (like 5% less or something). That way it doesn't really have a major impact, but still leaves Estarra's "better" concept intact.

Anyway, if the ability to have multiple zaps comes in, there could be a limit. Demigods can have (arbitary amount) zaps and Ascendants can have (arbitary amount * 2).

Ascendants could create commodities from scratch, while Demigods are only able to copy them.

Demigod can be granted Flight and Waterwalk and maybe Sprint at continuous essence drain, while Ascendant have a one time cost.

Ascendants can suppress their aura of power.

That's what I can think of for now.

If you want to give the non-bashing demis (ascendants) essence costs, other ways to get essence than farming would be great. Having done it both ways it is less of an issue, but being as the grind evasion is part of the point it would be unwise to backtrack on that.

An alternate mob only attack for all of us non demi warriors/monks to help bridge that still rather gaping chasm of a gap between high level bashing.

Warriors and monks could get it too naturally, just dunno if they would use it.

Good point on both counts. Vouch this.

It also happens to fit the precedent with the ascendants having things be cheaper/easier for them (i.e. domoth timers).

Yeah, I honestly think Demigods should be brought more in line with Ascendants, especially in terms of personal powers like flight and omniscience. Definitely with a higher essence cost, and make the cost to "purchase" these abilities from the essenceshop cost way more than learning ascendance. Leave the cult power with ascendants and give them the extra domoth timers etc. but use the essence shop to bring Demi's more inline with Ascendants.

Combat balance first though please.
