I just got avenged, and I don't think I deserved it. I killed someone, he vitaed. My passive went off and I got status. He didn't die a second time. Can we please change it so that if they don't die a second time, with your help. You don't get status?

That happened to me once too. However, because I didn't have a reputation for PK griefing and I talked to the victim, she gladly PK forgave me.
As such, since this can still be avoided, I think the system's fine as it is.

Why not just make it so a declare gets nulled if your target dies? So you have to declare again.

PK careful IS Vengeance careful. The only purpose for keeping track of Status is to determine vengeance or not. If you don't want your Vengeance to go up, you need to keep your status down, and the BEST way to do that is through PK Careful. I don't understand what you hate about it. It may have its quirks but it -directly- prevents the situation you encountered.
