Still makes me outta luck about those two honours quests though.

Clearly there needs to be a difficult quest someone can do to become level 20 for 24 hours (and cannot gain experience during this time period so you're locked at level 20 with 0 portals). Then we can make Newton count for explorers, too. Doing it makes you very, very easy to kill for that time period so it's kind of a curse, too...

That would make me so happy.

That's why I said remove the newton-kills achievement and instead link it to doing one of the honors quests.
Not allowing established players to get newbie achievements would suck for those who are completionists.

Hmm, well I'm on the fence about the killing in Newton and not sure why established players would care if they had the achievement or not, but I suppose we could just consider the task achieved (if we include it) for killing finks/gnomes anywhere (i.e., aetherbubbles).
Estarra2009-10-22 03:43:22
The question remains: any specific tasks that would help newbies that you think we should consider including?

Achievement hunters.
There is a reason people are bashing weevils (and slowly destroying their souls) to get to the 10k mark.
Xenthos2009-10-22 03:45:41
Oh, Estarra-- don't forget a bit of influencing as well as killing.

Graduate novicehood and the collegium, Master a skill, SKILLCHOICE LIST, and selecting a tertiary?
Fern2009-10-22 04:12:06
Achieve guildrank 1 (yay no more novicehood)
Achieve guildrank 3 (yay, you can peruse guildlogs now!)

I think a newbie would find a set of herbs to be pretty lame.
The tasks are pretty trivial so karma might make a good reward. From the administrator's POV it's almost hassle free and it'll encourage novices to use/learn about blessings to boot.

Lessons > karma gain for a newbie.

How about an artifact that brings up an ASCII map of the Basin of Life? (Maybe just the highways and organizations) It took me about two years to earn my artifact (thanks Ironbeard!) and it could be an incentive for players to buy credits. Depending on how detailed even lazy experienced players might find it convenient.

Isn't that what the MAPS function is? Sorry if I'm being a downer!

The "newbie achievements" are probably not using the same exact system, so they wouldn't contribute achievement points and the same caliber of rewards.

A lot of people still have that "gotta catch 'em all" mindset, so as soon as you put in anything that tracks these things, there will be some people who'll be upset if there's ones they have no way of getting, even if there's no reward.

Eh it's okay. I might generate a hundred ideas; if I'm lucky maybe 2 or 3 one won't suck. If I bring up 1000 maybe one of them will even be implemented
Basically by map I just meant a very general, high level snapshot of points of interest in the Prime Material plane. (similar to the "Basin of Life Graphic Map".) The map is not very useful but the idea is that you can quickly check to see if Estelbar lies along the Ackleberry. (I never remember) You'd be better off browsing the cartography on the main site but at least this way you don't have to leave the game. Also this would likely be every player's first artifact so they'll at least get some exposure and consider purchasing credits.

There's a nublet achievement quest inspired by Rael.
-Successfully navigate to a village/all villages for something.
-Successfully perform the commodity quests for the first time.
