Ok, so this has happened twice today alone. Enemies come to a fairly neutral-yet-still-cause-for-random-PK area, such as Faethorn. Really, the only reason they run around there is to have some fighting. That's fine. I want to scrap a bit, so I head in. 1 v 1. Immediately opponent runs off. It turns into a 2 v 2. That's still chill. We're set to go, let's have a fight. Nothing is at stake, nothing's being raided, enemies are just running around and we're using that excuse to chase them. In my head, both parties obviously know it's just an excuse for some random PK. Which is fun. Which is part of why we play.
Newp, apparently not. Suddenly our enemies depart and return with 3 more people in tow. Why? I am not trying to be sarcastic or snipey or anything. I am just honestly baffled why. If you initiate a disturbance in a fairly neutral area, that tells me you are in the mood for some random combat. Why suddenly come back with the zerg in full raid defence mode? As mentioned, nothing is at stake anyways. Your opponents have no reason to stay around and killing them doesn't achieve anything. Why suddenly turn a balanced fight into a "must kill at all costs" swarming?

Not everybody goes to faethorn looking for a fight. There are fae to influence that are rather important when we need to resummon Ladies after people come in and kill them.
Also, you should know better than to think that there is "nothing at stake" when people are fighting in faethorn. Eventually, somebody gets butthurt and things escalate.

Yeah, I meant the Mags in Faethorn. I know about influencing fae, thanks.
Fern2009-11-02 18:17:17
Ok, I was just saying. You weren't very specific, so I wasn't sure which particular enemies you were talking about.
Lehki2009-11-02 18:18:45
You're making an assumption that that's what people want. And the people are reasonable. And you know what happens when you assume. D:

Well, why would an enemy uninvested in the area come and prance around there, if not to draw people out for combat? To me, it seems a thinly veiled form of informal duel requests - I honestly don't know why else a Mag would skip around Faethorn if they didn't want a fight. I'm NOT saying that there is anything bad with this - one of my favorite memories from my newb days was that rather long, impromptu Faethorn duel I had with you, Lehki - I'm just saying I don't understand why someone would be there if they didn't want some scuffling and scrapping...

I once walked across faethorn so I could get from Water back to Mag territory and about 10 people ganked me.

If the people you were originally fighting continuously bring more people in, then... you just leave (if you are only looking for small fights). This is why I loved Faethorn fights so long ago, because I could go in with, say, Daem and Hyrtakos, and fight against Krellan and whoever, and if too many people from either side came in then the smaller force just left with no loss. Everyone gets to have a fun fight, and they can leave when that fight becomes un-fun. We even left the clear non-combatants alone (the people just influencing fae, whatever).

This one time, at band camp, i was fighting somone on earth 1 on 1 and holding my own and just when i got the upper hand the glom gang came and i had to bail.
From that single experience i then made sweeping judgements about all the players in lusternia and the state of combat in general.

Is every post you make bitter and defensive towards perceived insults against your org?
This is not an isolated incident. This happened -twice- today. This has happened many times in the past. I just want some fun combat, and I honestly was asking why people bring in the zergs when fights are evenly matched and are fights JUST for combat, not to defend anything.

Because some people don't want to fight, they want to win.
There's a distinct difference.

In before the obvious 'lol a glom is posting this' comment comes.
To be fair, everyone does it.
What Merik said is pretty much the point though, no deeper meaning than that.

I don't get it!
Beating people with excessive numbers is like pitting yourself against a special olympics squad member and being proud of yourself for winning. Yeah, sure, you "won", but what the heck does it prove?

The people who think that way find your thoughts just as alien as you do theirs. You just have to watch the tide to see which side happens to be running Lusternia at the time.

I realize you were there looking for a fun fight, and I know it's not fun when a larger force pounces on you somewhat unexpectedly, but we were really just after Nienla for her kick-and-run raid and you happened to be there with her when we found her. If folks like Nienla and Urazial (and Narsrim and whomever else) are going to use the tactics they use, then the ones they attack will use the overwhelming numbers tactic when they can. Some people are just asking for it, and occasionally they throw others into the fight not knowing what they're getting into.

Hit and run? I actually stay to fight a good lot of you. Most of me entering and leaving is to pooka someone to enter the archway from amid flowering green so I can fight them without having a demesne and a number of you to rely on passive discretionaries/shrine effects to hit me. I'm sorry if I tumble away from Knockdown/Pinleg.
Honestly, I don't mind dying either. I've run around Prime Serenwilde and died before, but I've honestly spent a half an hour running around Prime Serenwilde before someone actually caught me and I ran about still. Again, it's not my fault if Seren isn't coordinated enough to take down one person.
Celina2009-11-02 21:33:09
Hey. Mags don't zerg.
Zarquan has a point, though I don't think it really applies here. The overwhelming numbers tactic is hardly exclusive to ganking people that hit and run. I try to stick around when I raid unless numbers are just way out of hand. I still get zerg ganked by multi org task forces.
It's not a matter of "so and so hits and runs," this time and "we just want to win" another. It's almost always, if not always, people just wanting to win. Don't listen to certain people that say they are interested in 1v1 combat and some kind of e-honor. It's all a bunch of crap. We all want to win, it just differs the lengths to which people will go to claim a "victory."
Amusing, considering the names of the Mags I heard that were involved are notorious hit and run raiders. Double standards?

It doesn't prove anything. Though people still might get gigglies for killing people even if it wasn't a challenge.
I get it when I zerg, though it's more like a "YEAH THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BEING AN ANNOYING PRICK" thing.
@Nienla: you don't run around on Prime for a fight. It's more like a "who can catch me" thing and chopping trees at the same time. So any Prime stuff (unless it's a group killing guards) ends up being hit and run due to Avenger.

And Seren just moonbeams/flows repeatedly in attempts to catch me. You're not going to. Flow's EQ is too slow to catch someone who is actively running. Beam's not going to work on anyone with a semblance of intelligence. As far as Seren's go, I actually give credit to Eamon who knows Prime Serenwilde well enough to walk on his own to catch me, and he has many of times. You need to stop relying on Flow/Moonbeam, and start learning your own territory.
Celina2009-11-02 21:51:49
I rely on flow
