Having a birthday on the solstice must be an auspicious sign that suggests you will be a world creator, your soul lifted by the rising of the sun.
Except, no, my father's birthday was today too, and he couldn't even build a birdhouse.
Oh well, happy birthday anyway!

Except that it's the winter solstice, i.e. the shortest day of the year.

Which means that from now on the days get longer... historically, it is a celebration of new life, etc.
To quote from Wikipedia since I don't feel like doing in-depth sources over my lunch break:
Since the event is seen as the reversal of the Sun's ebbing presence in the sky, concepts of the birth or rebirth of sun gods have been common and, in cultures using winter solstitially based cyclic calendars, the year as reborn has been celebrated with regard to life-death-rebirth deities or new beginnings such as Hogmanay's redding, a New Year cleaning tradition. In Greek mythology, the gods and goddesses met on the winter and summer solstice, and Hades was permitted on Mount Olympus. Also reversal is another usual theme as in Saturnalia's slave and master reversals.

Might be a little late, but happy birthday.
Hope your family didn't pull the "combined birthday and holiday gift" thing growing up, by the way.
