So, I'm interested in this whole Aeromancy thing that we'll see in this coming week. I'm likely going to have a tiny sum of credits purchased (though I could get much higher if I wanted - it depends on what rolls around this week in terms of holiday purchases and money to spare) - I've figured I'll have dual trans and change, for guild skills with what I already have pre-purchase. As a Monk, I've transcendant Psionics + Psychometabolism, so I'm considering just holding on to Psionics. I know it will depend entirely on how Aeromancy itself operates - but I'd like to do this as.. 'budget' as possible.
Anyways - what I'm here to ask is general Mage advice, what tertiary is 'best' to pick up - possibly which spec out of the two Psionics ones available to Mages - and other general stuff. What skills will I need to learn in General Skills? What tradeskill should I pick up? Should I bother transing HighMagic? What artifacts would I legitimately want to purchase? Is Human an OK Mage race? Can Mages bash well?!
Basically, anything you can throw at me, go for it.
EDIT: Keep in mind, I'm interested in PK. I'd be bashing to get Titan or Demi.

Go TK for forcefield, Trans Tailoring for splendours if you can manage it. I wouldn't worry about transing Highmagic, Gedulah at most is handy. Human's aren't terrible mages, but they aren't that great until 90+. Resilience will really help if you can trans or at least mythical that.
Rodngar2009-12-22 00:05:55
I'm trans Resilience already, trans Combat as well. I have conglut in Planar, FocusMind in Discipline. I'm assuming I want Trans Discipline? I also have Tumbling. I have Inept Magic, which I'm told I need to change to Trans.

Well... I'm probably going to be loosing druidry, stag, dreamweaving(at some point), lowmagic and lorecraft
byebye omnitrans :'(

Forcefield is not as nice as it sounds. If you die, you get double XP loss, plus an hour of burnout.

Yeah, but careful people don't burnout unless they're ur'bashing on Astral and overlink, or they get jumped.

And where else do you NEED Forcefield? Almost everything else is tankable by a 0% Resil, robeless faeling.

Alright then, Kial - what're the benefits of not going TK? What would I get instead, as somebody interested in PK and moving (slowly? moderately?) toward Demi?

I know, going from druid to mage is going to hurt much skill wise...How I will miss lorecraft and totems . At least I do get to keep runes.
I have been told mage combat is much easier....Maybe I will get into PK...

I'm not sure what your spec is, but Telepathy offers a bit better of an offense then Telekinesis in general for a mage. Mindblast>Pyre, Omniphobia is a pain in the :censor" , and the instakill is actually viable. Landing a Heartburst is next to impossible.
Esano2009-12-23 02:28:54
It depends who you're fighting. As soon as someone gets focus mind, it's pretty much all over for a TP - and someone with good enough curing can handle it without it. Focus mind means that hidden afflictions aren't really a threat, as it just cures what you have, not what you think you have.
TK can take the attrition path and just build up vessels + bleeding, though, especially with claws.

As a note, aeromancers dont need to worry so much about healing and survival, their demesne does a good job of it passively. Forcefield means you are wasting offense. If you get in trouble, you have a few options to move or remove a target. If your affs are focused on mental then telepathy will offer you more affliction potential, and if you can stick addiction for awhile you are likely to get your burst.
I feel the best tertiary for an aeromancer is dreamweaving. A demesne that enemes cannot readily move through to try to find a target in super dust storm? Even if you stay in the room your demesne keeps them from readily escaping, and you can attrition them all. Things like stripping levitate with narcolepsy also means you can get a good drop on people. There is no good way to fight when you cant escape.

I disagree about dreamweaving. Maybe it's good defensively, but..
Kill method?

How about a lack of crippling bugs that have been ignored and denied.
