At the very least, lusts are left, tried to enemy people and it gave me the 'you have them lusted' message. I didn't actually check the lists, just assumed its been as I remember it from before.

It would be nice if allies and enemies lists (including lusts) were wiped going into the arena, and then restored to their original state upon exiting the arena.

I remember it used to be like this, but something changed in the past few months.

Never has been that way to my recollection.

I remember quite a few arena events I've been it where rejecting folks prior to entrance saved me from those who didn't think to do so.

Same, I've nearly killed sparring partners during raids because of this.

Restoring defenses to their prior state would be nice.

The reason they don't have this, it is said, is that the denizens never fight back in more challenging ways. This quickly gets outside "simple" ideas (if it isn't outside it already), but...
  • Critical hits for influencing.
  • Denizens occasionally do debate afflictions.
  • If you're influencing and afflicted with Hurry, you can't leave the room until it's cured.
  • If you're influencing and afflicted with Loophole, denizen attacks do 50% more damage.
  • If you're influencing and afflicted with Circuitous, your influencing attacks are significantly slowed.
Thus, influencing is slightly riskier, but also possibly faster, particularly at higher levels. It's also more interesting. And it's less automatable (though still automatable, everything is, ultimately). Win-win. But probably non-trivial to implement.

My three effects for the three debate afflictions might not be the best, and I bet if people looked at this as "how can we fix the flaws" instead of just saying it has flaws, we could make it really solid. The goal is to make it similar to hunting in how there's the risk if you fall behind you could get stuck losing -- just like how denizens can break legs, do extra damage, or give you afflictions that make you less able to attack them.

Not quite far enough there, Lendren.

You would also have to divorce NPC 'responses' from player influencing attacks; currently you can debate mobs without getting responses at all unless you're lagged. Adding in afflictions will only affect people with low charisma or bad connections.

If you do this, though, bromide use for influencing will go way up (your own influence & their response to deal with each round...). You might have to halve the ego damage of each to try to keep it at around the same total, then add in the afflictions, and at that point you're really way out of the realm of simple.

This probably wouldn't qualify as "simple", but a discussion brought up and fleshed out this idea: Let tinkerers put enchantments on scrolls akin to sorcelglass. You could then apply the scroll to any item capable of holding an enchantment, giving the item 0 charges (to simplify things). This would result in the following:

The basic enchantments would become more obtainable.
Tinkerers would get an edge.
Elementalists and Cosmic would still have a "monopoly" on their enchantments.

Overall, I can't see any major negatives about it.

You already get 50% more exp per mob from influencing than hunting anyway.

Can we have it so that sticky dingbats can be turned into bound credits? Some of us have like.. Three dingbats and nothing to do with them, but we need bound for lessons!
Unknown2011-04-10 14:24:09
Clearly, you need more dingbats!
Unknown2011-04-11 08:58:08
But I don't want more dingbats! Also stools should last longer. 22 months for something is just dumb.

In light of changing debating to require a declare, we should have a debating arena. suspicious.gif I was half asleep when I came up with this idea. dry.gif
Unknown2011-04-11 14:48:47
Why? It's not like you're going to get suspect status from a debate alone.
Ssaliss2011-04-11 15:00:44
Nor do you lose experience, or charges from focus. Just debate.
Unknown2011-04-11 19:05:01
For some reason, I had a stupid moment and thought you lost experience. As I said, I was half asleep.
Morshoth2011-04-12 17:14:15
No, you don't lose it during debates... however you do lose it during psionic burnout (which I think is kind of ridiculous) and influence...
