Losing a coat means you lose a proofing unless you're wearing Splendours. Don't give even more people reason to be a Tailor ONLY for the trans skill, please.
Ah! See, I had forgotten about that because of splendours. Disregard then!
Felicia2010-05-15 20:04:27
I'm not sure if I have my facts completely straight, but I think it goes something like this:
With a normal greatrobe (or batted vest; everyone seems to ignore those, for whatever reason), a cloak, and a coat, you can be fully proofed.
Splendours hold an additional proofing (?), so you only need either a cloak or a coat to be fully proofed, not both.
Now maybe it's just me, but it seems like we might as well just allow greatrobes, batted vests, and splendours to hold one of every proofing all by themselves, freeing people from the need to wear a cloak or coat (or both) entirely. There's no actual logical reason for proofing limitations, is there? Someone right out of the portals can be fully proofed if someone fronts them a little bit of gold. It's not like proofings are a special or limited resource.

Splendours hold all four proofings, which is the second reason they are superior to greatrobes and thus cost a truckload in credits and comms.

Right, but my point is that all you have to do to be fully proofed without splendours is wear a cloak and a coat:
Splendours = 4 proofings
Greatrobe + cloak + coat = 4 proofings
Wearing a cloak and a coat is completely trivial. Anyone can do it, and the cost is negligible.
Can splendours owners do something advantageous with their non-proofed cloak and coat that I'm unaware of?

The proofings on robes get more DMP than proofings on cloaks or coats. This is where the relevancy lies, and why warriors wearing coats and cloaks with proofs isn't nearly as effective.
Felicia2010-05-15 20:54:01
Ah, that makes sense, then.
I can see now why people are tempted to select Tailoring just for Splendours. +15/+15 was one thing, but two improved proofings to boot....
Feeling the temptation myself, in fact, possibly as a side-effect of being a Tinkerer.

Also of note. A batted vest holds one proofing, not two. And it's the same quality as a coat's or a cloak's. Likewise Tabards hold one proofing and take up just enough slots in outerwear that you can't use coats or cloaks with them, which is why there are a total of, like, four tabards in the game.

EDIT:
Okay, this sort of thing shouldn't surprise me anymore. Time to let it go and accept that some things are simply let fall by the wayside.

The proofings are pretty major, too. I'm not sure the extent of the boost, but to give you an idea:
I tried bashing astral urns with both 107/107 fullplate and with fully proofed splendours at 70/67. They have multi-source attacks, especially leaning toward electric, so I thought it might be good to gauge differences. Over time, I actually had to sip health less frequently with the splendours than I did with the fullplate.
Esano2010-05-16 05:49:42
I know that robe proofings are 36 dmp, which is hefty.
Eldanien2010-05-16 05:56:27
Versus the ... 10 or 15 of coats and cloaks? I could have sworn robes were 20, going to 28 with hood raised. But too much of what I know is ancient news.

Hanged:

Ooh, that'd be wonderful.
Lendren2010-05-17 22:38:07
No sense in limiting it to letters. Paintings would also be nice. I've been pushing this for almost two RL years now...
Ssaliss2010-05-17 22:39:14
I got the sensation that this would, in essence, turn a letter into a readable painting. Or did I misunderstand anything?
Lendren2010-05-17 22:59:44
And let you have several. My idea would let you display any six things, so you could have an art gallery, or show off your prized rare items or personal keepsakes, etc. It's essentially just a cabinet, minus the preserves-clothes feature, plus a feature that you can see things in it even when it's closed.
Iktomi2010-05-18 03:06:24
Just something little... it'd be neat if those with Hunting could ADD WOOD TO CAMPFIRE to a campfire that is starting to smoulder, to keep it going. Could cost 1 wood to add.

Yes please. I figured you already could, but that must be my days as a Sentinel talking.

Really, just one? I haven't tried it yet. Seems a little misleading then that the AB for it says "Batted vests can be proofed just like greatrobes (but do not stack with greatrobes)."

I was actually thinking of certificates! I was making ig certificates yesterday and then this idea came up.
