The last time the books-for-sale suggestion was made, it was suggested that a person be made editor of a book when it was purchased. That works for things with no content, but what if you wanted to distribute manuals or pamphlets in your shop and not have everyone editing them? Might require a new shopkeeper syntax for flagging them to turn over editing privileges, but that gets much more complicated.

Well, the "solution" for that is for bookbinders to be able to make books with no editor. If there is no editor, it will be set when sold in a shop (and perhaps people can claim the books as well). If there is an editor set, no change will take place. Sure, it pushes the "effort" on to bookbinders, but I think it'd be a nice bone to throw them.

Seems reasonable to me.

how about if a copy of a book is made? would that affect it in any sort of way?
Ssaliss2010-08-13 18:42:37
I'd assume any copy of a book is sealed/uneditable or has the original author... although I've never actually copied a book before.

Actually, selling books with content would be the easiest thing to do. Just make copies of the books. You don't need to name an author for a copy. It is uneditable and has the same author as the original. But, if you're wanting to sell books with stuff in them that no one can edit, that's the way to go.

So, the shop logic would be that someone buying a book with an editor would buy it as-is, while someone buying a book with no editor becomes the new editor of that book. If that's cool with the way the Bookbinding skill works already, it seems like simple enough logic for a shop to do this.

Wait, you're talking about selling blank books? I thought you were talking about selling books with things in it? Like if you wanted to sell copies of one of Lendren's plays or something in your shop.

Ok, well, in that case, get a bookbinder with PrintingPress and give them the comms required to make the book (they won't need the gold outlay) and they can make a copy for you which you can then sell. You won't be able to write in the copy, nor will anyone else. Copies are read only. However, if the author changes the original, the change will manifest in all the copies.

I've thought about whether it would be nice to be able to sell blank books in shops, but I think I really prefer dealing with customers one-on-one. We so rarely get to do anything at all in bookbinding, it's nice to at least get to talk to a customer. crying.gif

Now, if we could make stationery...

Add mobs who can induct into the Hallifax and Gaudiguch and their respective guilds. Or do we need to pay for that...

Enable Ascendants to reincarnate within the abyss of the domoth realms. This way, I don't have to wait for our already busy administration to help me with this tiny matter whenever I want to shift races.

Condense kegs the same way other items are done in shops. I.e. instead of seeing
QUOTE
keg139353: liniment (keg refills) 28 110gp
keg158047: liniment (keg refills) 100 110gp

you'd see
QUOTE
keg139353: liniment (keg refills) 128 110gp

Would save a lot of wares-spam in certain cases (like people having 6 or 7 kegs of each refill).

... a long time ago they coded in something to let Ascendants reincarnate at the Portal of Fate without dying.

Did they disable that?

No clue! I didn't want to risk it bugging out again and ended up just asking for help.

Could the defense line for the Golden Lips experience bonus please show the time left on them? Or perhaps a command similar to Godfeelings that lets you see how long is left?
