Though I wonder if there's a combat purpose that won't become clear until some later skill or guild is released. Time and again we've seen things that seemed pointless at first become combat-important months or even years later.
CompareAge Transcendent Win your arguments by calling your opponents old-fashioned!
INFLUENCE - COMPAREAGE
Syntax: DEBATE
Debating may only be done on other players. It is a (normally) non-violent means of confrontation where the two sides set their influencing skills against one another. Normally, COMPAREAGE will be weak against all three mindsets. However, if you use it against an opponent who has already burnt out his or her ego, then it drains both health and ego equal to the difference between target's age and your age. Furthermore, if your opponent is at or below 50% of their maximum ego, he or she will die from the overwhelming jealousy at your youth.
There you go.
Edit: It bundles so many things together! Its an anti-Demigod/Ascendant move, its an influencing instant-kill, and it involves age mechanics!
Edit2: On hindsight, Night-users would so thrash the Basin with this. Penumbra + Faeling charisma + specialisation bonus = PURPLE REIGN OF DEATH!!!!!

That doesn't apply when you're using a type of attack that doesn't have a higher wound state than say..medium. So let's say I'm just striking, and there's no afflictions possible that can be given with just striking, but I'm setting them up for a higher wound-state. How do I know? I don't, because I'll still be giving lower wound-state afflictions at a higher wound-state. Besides that, it's just not logical to give the middle three body parts and then arbitrarily format arms and legs as sub-groups of the body.
You know by using ASSESS TARGET.
That's kind of the point of the skill. Now, it DOES have a (very short) equilibrium time associated with it; this is because you should not be using it every attack.
Alternatively, you guesstimate how much wounding you think they are at... but such a guesstimation should not be made easier than it is, I feel.

IDEA:
HandTools in Artisan
Basically, small decorative handheld tools/objects. Example, hairbrushes, walking sticks, hammers (the kind that you knock nails, not heads), chisels, etc.
It'll be something like accessories in tailoring, or piercings in jewelry.

Walking sticks would be cool.

Has been suggested and categorically and thoroughly shot down on a number of occasions, by Estarra in person. Artisan is not getting anything new.

Doesn't Paavik sometimes have a cane/walking stick in it though?

What diamondias said, plus some concern about bloating the object database (though that excuse is trotted out for furniture too even though furniture isn't in that database), and generally, Estarra being convinced no one wants things that are solely decorative and have no practical function (despite the huge amount of contrary evidence literring the world).

To wit: A good 50% of my tailoring transactions are of the vanilla variety. Undergarments, dresses, scarves, gloves, masks, shoes... Aside from arguably raising prestige, these do nothing special, and you can hit Royalty without them fairly easily. (And undergarments specifically DON'T raise prestige, since they aren't seen by the mobs you're influencing anyway.)

They should alter it so that if you influence someone with Seduction in nothing but undergarment, prestige is counted double or triple

It's 55 damage per hit without Aggressive, 100 damage per hit with Aggressive. Multiplied by crit level, of course.
Further, it's damage on top of your normal bashing attacks, since you can beast order it and it doesn't consume your balance / eq. However, it is in a much slower timer...
My understanding is that it's supposed to be an addition to normal bashing, not a replacement thereof. I have yet to code it into my bashing routine (I will get around to it eventually), but just looking at the numbers and the crit rate it should speed up killing in general by a small but noticeable amount.

What you say is true, and I accept that, to a point. I just think it would be nice of he would at least kill a weevil. Guess I'll have to buy that Aggressive thing now.
