It is a bit weird to see people who admit they don't abash weigh in so strongly on this topic. Anyway.
Agree
As far as limiting the experience, some ideas might be:
- Limit the amount of active siphons a ship can have, so that you don't have your crew plus another 5 people who will most likely go afk while waiting for their turn on turret, to siphon, etc. Maybe 2. Your active one, and a backup. Others just won't gain experience. Also, why does the anchor module give experience for the person locked in... there aren't any commands that can be used.
Agree. Make it only the ACTIVE modules get experience. People sitting and waiting their turn don't get anything. So if you did not enter the siphon command, you don't get experience.
- Eliminate pilot-spawned vortexes. Seriously. As it is now, people can go from vortex to vortex, siphoning 200 power until the first sight of a karibidean (implemented to make it harder) and then just jump to another vortex. Seriously - go look at the aetherspace around Faethorn. It is ridiculous. If people had to actually drain these vortexes before new, fresh ones would appear, that would change a lot. Alternately, keep them as they are now, and just make them contain 100p instead of 1000p. Scale the appearance of karibideans accordingly.
Agree. There are far to many vortexes

To my knowledge none of those effect aether willpower though I suppose it is easy enough to check using the chalice after siphoning, someone remind me to do that.
Mine drops 100, then by the next siphon is full again which considering the cheer amount of willpower I have, is nothing

Yeah, I am afraid they do

Can't speak for the others but the rocking chair gives an extra +2 aetherwill regen per tic.

Which just supports my case to increase turret willpower. I suppose it means my willpower gems in aquila are actually useful.

You can sit in a rocking chair while locked into a module? *boggle*
Zalandrus2010-01-19 22:41:21
The idea of just giving active modules exp is a good one, and would limit the number of ppl gaining experience at a time to 6. Combine this with not regening aetherwill in aetherspace at all (only on a docked ship, or on a plane), and that would really limit the speed of gaining exp.

Whoa, how does that make any sense at all? Module use should require not being prone or subjected to anything that gives the
flag.

Well, not for the people who are actively doing stuff, but it would limit the leeching, yes.

I am totally against not regening aetherwill in aetherspace.
Zalandrus2010-01-19 22:45:46
No, it would for people actively doing stuff, cuz they would have to take much longer breaks, and probably wouldn't want to just hang out doing nothing on an aethership that's still bashing, since they wouldn't regen will.
Unknown2010-01-19 22:45:47
I never lose much wp unless I'm siphoning, and even then it's only because the turrets are manned by high skill/high level people getting crits out the wazoo, forcing me to siphon more often.
Though gathering the crew and coordinating everyone is kind of tricky, and if orgs ever crack down on people hunting together with enemies and the like (remember when Ayden blew up on Hearth with a bunch of Gaudis? Nevermind so many other recent incidents), it will limit aetherhunting pretty well.
The best thing to do at this time is make all exp boosts not apply to aspace. Achievements, human exp boost, double exp days, autumn, harvest, etc. That way when a big boost does come around, people will have to expend more resources and effort than finding someone willing to let them fly with them so they can get 25K essence worth of exp from killing one gargantuan.

Unknown2010-01-19 22:46:08
I don't find it strange that people who don't aetherhunt are weighing in on the topic. We play the game, too, and we hear from others just how great aetherhunting is, not to mention seeing the free scripts posted. Just like it's not surprising that everyone who aetherhunts will defend the current setup because it benefits them and their friends greatly.
It should be on par with bashing or influencing to the point where people choose to aetherhunt primarily because it's something they enjoy and it happens to be a viable method for acquiring experience, gold, esteem, essence, or whatever. Don't nerf it back into being unused, but don't leave it as something that people rave about because they went from level 92 to 93 in an hour.

That would be a good fix. Would curtail the most ridiculous aspects of abashing - last double xp day, Glom got six or so new demis.

For reference for everybody here, I think 92 to 93 takes more like 8-10 hours, taking into account running low on will.

On a normal XP rate, but the aforementioned boosts might change that story. I was perhaps exaggerating a tiny bit, however, I admit.

I am level 92 with human, domoth, and harmony... 2 hours in today and I am not 93. Thank you for supporting the misinformation act of Lusternia.

How about instead, not while locked in? That would reduce the gain if people wanted to rejoin, or if they didn't it would limit the time frame the groups could go out.
Gregori2010-01-19 22:52:23
Also if you turn off exp boosts in aetherspace I can guarantee nobody will be doing it anymore. You will just make aetherspace that mechanic that nobody remembers again.
