True. But it doesn't deny the fact that Tarot is a godly utility skillset that can help other classes with most any type of kill.

Actually, the point was that tarot is a skill that depends entirely on synergy with the skills around it, as evidenced by tarot in the hands of bards.

To be viable for combat, sure. I'm talkin' utility.
Xavius2010-01-22 22:59:42
Utility. Right.

Then look at Tarot. Catacombs, Hermit, Healer, Teacher, Starleaper, Empress, Magician.

Healer and magician cost more than potions. Strict combat skills. Scratch those.

Empress is weaker utility than summon. It's a combat skill, really. Scratch that.

So, now you have catacombs, hermit, teacher, and starleaper.

I wouldn't normally think of starleaper as utility. It's not a useless card, but utility? Eh. Moving one room just to die the next room over because you picked the tertiary that doesn't work for your guild is a boat of fail.

Catacombs and hermit are transportation. Transportation is nice, but would you really pick a skill for transportation? I wouldn't.

Then we're down to teacher. Teacher is a cool idea. Is teacher reliable enough to call it utility? Eh.

I am seriously considering astrology when I go Illuminati. I am hoping the primary and secondary skills will be solid enough to support themselves so I can use astrology for buffs, debuffs, and meteors. Plus I figure it can't hurt to set rooms on fire for real with pyromancers and burns.

Yeah, I want Astrology for when I go Illuminati as well. It would be nice to have something that'll have good utility and also let me be useful outside of just dying, if there's a fight. Plus I loved the RP of it.
Shamarah2010-01-23 02:21:08
Astrology is much better utility than tarot tbh, sphere buffs are absolutely sick.
Unknown2010-01-23 03:47:14
I might still head to Gaudi when the Illuminati open, if they turn out to be some kind of pyrokinetic tzimisce.

Please don't let the Researchers be fluffier than Celestines. fear.gif

I really hope they don't give the Illuminati astrology.
Unknown2010-01-23 03:51:52
I really hope they don't give the Illuminati passive amputate.

Sun and Meteor are Fire based.

Therefore, the Illumnati should get Astrology.

Yep.

I would like to personally request that bards get a third tertiary (or just city bards) before the release of either of the guardians guilds in Hallifax and Gaudiguch....

I will personally see to the enslavement of Xavius to design it....

While we can't know for sure it would make sense for Gaudi not to have astrology.

It was a Hallifax science that was not likely taught to anyone else til the event.
It would balance out the division of the skills between guardian guilds (each option is available to three guardians)
It is a reason for why they do not have all four skills (perhaps hallifax does have faith in tarot?) though of course you could both come up with reasons for Gaudiguch and Hallifax to not have one of the other options

Tell you what, we will lose astrology and you lose beastmastery.

considering one is a general skill and the other is a tertiary unlikely to happen, you not getting the skill you want is not going to be as unbalanced as removing a general skill from an entire city

Unless the admin are going to give all four possible guardian tertiaries to the new guilds I still await your argument on which tertiary would be sacrificed considering that in terms of rp the lost skill for the current guardian guilds makes sense.

No astrology for Gaudi, no tarot for Hallifax, with their primary and secondary skills tailored to fit. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Simply because Tarot is the skillset of gods. You can do anything with Tarot, and it still has room for far more utility than anything else. Working on damage killing someone? Oh, with warrior you can help with that AND give entanglement at the same time. Mana or ego kill? Fling a dreamer and you're giving passive help for the next 18 seconds. Then there's the fact that Soulless is a very viable insta-kill.

Look at the utility. Healing has healing auras, which save you some herbs and health potions in the utility department. Astrology has spheres and four various blessings, but even those are cyclic and not very reliable. Hexen has... nothing. Then look at Tarot. Catacombs, Hermit, Healer, Teacher, Starleaper, Empress, Magician... it's got everything and more. Tarot is excellent, and I feel sorry for Hallifax if they do not get it.

I won't call the astrology buffs/debuffs unreliable just because they're cyclic. Sure, you might not get what you want whenever you want, but the buffs are still good.

ASTROLOGY - SUN

Syntax: ASTROCAST SUN RAY AT
The Sun is the center of the astrological system, representing the ego
and the self. The Sun's effect when cast as an offensive ray of energy
is always to cause damage. The type of damage depends on which sign it
was in when the target was born (check his or her nativity).

(Note: The damage source is always 100% magical.)
Volcano: fire damage
Antlers: cutting damage
Twin Crystals: psychic damage
Dolphin: cold damage
Lion: cutting damage
Crocodile: asphyxiation damage
Burning Censer: asphyxiation damage
Spider: poison damage
Dragon: fire damage
Skull: blunt damage
Bumblebee: poison damage
Glacier: cold damage

Sun is not purely fire-based.

Tarot is also more a Mag thing, with their whole history of being Prophets and all. suspicious.gif
