So now that Hallifax and Gaudiguch guardians appear to be right around the corner, I've gotten to thinking. What tertiaries will these new guilds have?
If you look at the Celestines and Nihilists, you see that they share Tarot and Astrology, and that one has Healing, while the other has Hexes. Now, it could be that the other guilds will end up like this, with Tarot, Astrology and Healing/Hexes. But... I don't think so. I somehow doubt that Gaudiguch is gonna want to have anything to do with a lucidian art like Astrology. I'm thinking that instead, they'll get Tarot, Healing and Hexes.
If that's right, I'd think that would mean that Hallifax gets Astrology, Healing and Hexes. In other words, they'll get shafted from the getgo.
Am I the only one who thinks this?

How does not having Tarot mean that the guild is "shafted" when you have no idea how it's even going to work? Maybe Astro or Hexes synergize better with its skills.
Zalandrus2010-01-22 16:23:22
I think there's potential for new tertiaries for them, even if they aren't released immediately with the new guilds. But your guesses about which three they're going to get are logical. Maybe they'll only get a choice of 2 starting out, to have room for a new one...

Astrology is a Lucidian art? Here I thought it was just a skill.
Shiri2010-01-22 16:31:02
It's a lucidian science.

Don't tell anyone I agreed with Shamarah, but really...it's perfectly reasonable to guess that astrology or hexes will work great for them. I'd actually like to see an archetype with skills that really mesh well with astrology or healing. Besides, can you imagine trying to fight a group in aeromancer meld with healing guardians backing them up?
I would hardly jump to the conclusion that they'd be shafted, even if your guess on skills is right.

I find it very unlikely that the admin would decide to release new guardian tertiaries over, say, bards.

This is one of those things that you can't really worry about until the skills come out, and people have enough time to figure out how to use them, and how to react to them.
I mean, people are still getting used to the mage skillsets. They've been out, what, a month? There's enough knee-jerk reaction followed by "oh, guess it isn't so bad" going on as is. No need to freak yourself out with pre-release knee jerking.

Hm, if something synergizes well with astrology, wouldn't its strength have to be fairly cyclical, since astrology is cyclical? As in, there would be times an astrology Halli guardian would suck, but when they're good, they're really good?
Unknown2010-01-22 16:55:25
Since I predict that Halli-Guardians will get some form of Aeon on either their main skill or their ritualism, I don't think they will get much shafted. The only reasons for Tarot being needed in Guardian combat is Aeon and Soulless. Wiccans do fine without Tarot, but they have Aeon in Totems to compliment their Hexes

Screw the tertiary. Bards want a choice to replace acrobatics.

But you'd take psimet in a heartbeat. Or maybe you wouldn't, but you'd be wrong.

Simply because Tarot is the skillset of gods. You can do anything with Tarot, and it still has room for far more utility than anything else. Working on damage killing someone? Oh, with warrior you can help with that AND give entanglement at the same time. Mana or ego kill? Fling a dreamer and you're giving passive help for the next 18 seconds. Then there's the fact that Soulless is a very viable insta-kill.
Look at the utility. Healing has healing auras, which save you some herbs and health potions in the utility department. Astrology has spheres and four various blessings, but even those are cyclic and not very reliable. Hexen has... nothing. Then look at Tarot. Catacombs, Hermit, Healer, Teacher, Starleaper, Empress, Magician... it's got everything and more. Tarot is excellent, and I feel sorry for Hallifax if they do not get it.

I dunno, maybe they'll get Tarot, but not Hexes?

Your point being?
Eldanien2010-01-22 22:27:03
I think the point is that any one skillset's value depends greatly on the other skillsets inherent to a guild. For all we know, Tarot could prove to be one of the worst possible tertiaries for the new Guardian guilds.
For the sake of variety, I'm hoping some of the lost and forgotten skillsets become more prominent.
