Absolutely fantastic. However, isn't the skill meant primarily to help true-novices? If so, I think it should be moved as low in the skillset as possible, perhaps just after diagnose.
Looks like it will be for everyone, and even at that, most people will still want potionlist/thirdeye... which are still higher up in the skill list than firstaid is.
Will this account for certain artifacts too, like attempting to scrub with soap instead of looking for a cleanse enchantment?
And any idea how much this will affect server side lag?
Rodngar2010-01-26 20:29:20
This looks incredible for newbies. However, I'm curious to know if externally built systems will still prove useful over Firstaid - I suspect they will by a fair margin due to the ability to adjust what cures what how etc.
Eldanien2010-01-26 20:30:15
External systems will tend to be leaps and bounds past firstaid, if for no other reason than they don't take eq to cure each affliction.

True-novices? Try Mac-based players without the skills to code! (Still waiting for a full system to be released through Mudlet). I can actually PLAY the game and participate in some level of combat and such!!!
YAY.

Well, yeah, that's a given.
Estarra2010-01-26 20:35:07
I believe that well-designed systems are better than firstaid alone. I can also imagine firstaid being incorporated into some systems, making system building easier.
In any event, Charune deserves many, many kudos for all the work he put into this project!

Just answered my own question. It doesn't.

Tried it with Sarrasri on sap and it didn't. And it also tried to point cleanse instead of rub cleanse.

Would you want, in the middle of combat, to remember that, in order to get out of the current Truelock, you need to type FIRSTAID POWER instead of regular FIRSTAID? I mean, from what I gather, it'll only Green/Ged if you're Truelocked.
FirstAid isn't supposed to be a system replacement, merely a bridge to make PvE and the majority of the game more accessible to more people, so yes, I would prefer that.
Shamarah2010-01-26 22:10:26
Obviously real systems will always be better at curing afflictions because they don't have to wait for and use equilibrium in order to cure, and also there are some afflictions where you really can't afford to wait to cure them (chestpain springs to mind here). This is a great change that I imagine will help newbies a lot though.

It's still in report 291. Keep your fingers crossed.
As for First Aid, it's utterly lovely. It is the sort of true novice friendly change we need, something that really will help people get off the ground, and teach them cures too, without wading through the curelist.
Bravo!

I agree, I think this will make combat far more accessible to new players which is always a good thing. Heck it is good for us returning players who's systems are out of date.
Definitely a very cool addition!

Or when new afflictions are added and noncoms (i.e. me) go "AWHMAGAWD AWHMAGAWD I'M DYING WHATDOIDOOOO!?"

I'm gonna trigger "You are afflicted by ABCD" to FirstAid

Be careful setting up a trigger that takes balance/eq. I would suggest setting up an alias or macro rather than a trigger.
Not to mention that if you really do want to trigger it you will need to do more work so it will fire when you get your eq back if you get hit while off eq (which in a real fight is going to be the vast majority of the time).
Oh yes and before I forget, I wanted FIRSTAID NOPOWER to be the option so it would not mess up new players curing but would still allow for more advanced usage. It is not really a big deal though.
Shaddus2010-01-26 23:58:04
Alright, Estarra. Charune worked his ass off for this, you should double his salary.

It's more as a stopgap measure before I've got enough to make my own system. Mostly for those revolts or similar as a stopgap measure.
