I was thinking about making a Merian servant/slave type character In magnagora, Just to see what the RP was like. Good/bad?

It's been done and done, usually fails pretty bad

Magnagoran merians, Celestian viscanti, Seren illithoids... they've all been done to death. Usually their player gets sick of not being able to draw from the nexus and reincarnates after awhile. One thing that hasn't been attempted yet is a dracnari in Hallifax, or a trill or lucidian in Gaudiguch. I imagine it wouldn't be as bad - for all the animosity between them, there's nothing like the threat of 'taint' to get in the way, and neither Kalikai nor Elostian seem to harbor any racial hatreds. You'd miss out on the new racial specializations, though, which are all pretty damn good.

Kepherans in Glomdoring, too.

Try coming up with an interesting character concept that has nothing to do with being the 'hated outcast'. Believe me - being a hated outcast isn't as fun as it looks. One of my favorite characters ever was my cantor faeling Chobbins, who was descended from sugar fae and had to avoid being eaten by hungry tae'dae. Too bad he got wiped when I went inactive

Pretty sure Drae is a Hallifax Drac, at the least, and I haven't heard him complaining much.

you can't do Seren illie (You'll get kicked if you don't reincarnate).

The opposite race is kind of fun for awhile, but then everyone starts dogging you out. Please note the Kephera queen from Glom.

That was different issues other than race, actually. She almost won VA as a Keph, in fact, prior to all that.

She's back now though, just has a bad connection, and (I think) the issues are settled.

As a note, we have both Lucidian and Trill in Gaudiguch, and Dracnari in Halli.

No one particularly cares methinks.

There used to be an okay (at least imo) structure to RP out Viscantis in Celest in the Paladins. Examples being they could advance to a certain rank ... since they can't draw from the Pool everybody must do what they can to help them draw power elsewhere ... but then times changed and people were all like "Screw Viscanti" and that was the end of that. Now there's so much hatred and such against Viscanti in Celest that it's really pointless to even try.

Bad.

Unless you want the heart of your roleplay to be, I was born in secret to a Magnagoran family as a consequence of a forbidden liaison between a Magnagoran noble and a merian slave... and then I was kicked out.

The roleplay concept is good, but it doesn't make any practical sense. Sometimes people come up with zany roleplay ideas, in the vain hope that other players will compromise the consistency of their characters in order to make allowance for it. This rarely happens and it leads to disappointment.

In this case, I can't perform a volte face on the racial hatred thing. It's written into the game's history and been a constant across three Fains. My followers won't either, so you won't be in luck.

In other words:

Three Fains? How do I know which one is the BAMF who loves teh lols and killing folks.
