Sylphas is going on 180 and might hit 78 tonight because I have a 75% exp bonus. I'm not looking for quick demi, just demi that isn't soul-crushingly boring.
Are you a pilot? I don't see any other way that gaining exp via aetherspace would not be significantly less interactive and more boring than normal bashing.
When I was 80ish I was running around UV still worried about running into multiple cave fisher rooms, or hitting and running against pacts of illithoids, all while keeping an eye on the area in case someone found me and I had to fight/run.
Aetherspace, as a gunner, is where I just hit a macro over and over for an hour being bored out of my mind.
To each their own I suppose
The point still remains that dealing with low risk and low/no effort advancement is an issue with aetherspace and the current changes are just the latest bandaid to the system.

Perhaps their strength was somewhat intended to stave off the rash of "Lets take a bunch of level 10s and turn them into level 100s".
This is a fail approach actually, since the exp gain has a somewhat flat % rate per level. A bunch of level 10s would make way more exp doing scholars and bards than they would helping to shoot down black dragons. Most forms of exp gain are equal or superior until around 85+ from what I've heard, it's just that getting planted in an aethership tends to be convenient for people lower than that level, and since aetherwill only prevents you from participating in aspace unlike endurance/willpower lost in bashing, or if you just made a bunch of tarot cards/runes... well, I don't think that requires further explanation.
And demigods do matter when domoth fights break out. If both sides have five demigods, but one side has two melders and the other side has none, things'll get tough for the latter, no? This is particularly pertinent for absolving.

I read your full statement. Mechanically how is grinding different in WoW? From what I remember from playing it was hit tab to target, hit 1, hit 2, hit 3. Dead. Repeat. The only thing that made it entertaining was the fact you had flashy graphics, but they get old after a bit, too. I'm just not seeing your point.
Because there was at least a quest giving you a reason why you were doing that most of the time. And sometimes quests had you doing stuff besides kill X mons/gather Y items. Here when you're grinding, there is usually no other reason then for the sake of grinding.

And quest grinding in Lusternia doesn't really produce much exp, either.

Well quests here are for their own sake, 'cus they're fun. Quests there are meant just go make grinding levels easier, pretty much.

Games shouldn't be tests of willpower, full stop.
I disagree. Games are generally tests of one thing or another. Reasoning, social maneuvering, coding, whatever. Why not tests of endurance or patience? Just because you don't enjoy that particular aspect, doesn't mean it's an invalid game style. Not everyone likes tic-tac-toe.

This is wrong. I have seen novices shoot up 20 - 30 levels sitting on a siphon and just watching the spam with no competition for those levels. Bards, scholars, pilgrims are all going to be contested and they will never make as much as they can on an aethership. Which is why people in the Hearth clan say "don't bother learning lessons, just come sit on a siphon" To which I formally complained to Serenguard leadership about when I was in Serenguard.
I am also wondering if these level 85 people who can't kill slivven are people who spent from novicehood onwards on an aethership so have no idea how to cure/bash/do anything other than leech xp, because I had no trouble at all with the slivven once I had the bashing lines in for them. Granted I am a demigod, but they were not hitting that hard and I was undeffed and just running around trying to point staff at them before orckui killed them all.

I stand corrected, then!
And slivvens do 250ish damage to me.

Do vortexes still spawn or what?
Edit: 30 minutes of constant flying later... seriously, where are they?

Haha no. I didn't "discover" aetherhunting until after Aoife was level 82. I bashed/influenced up to that point, and have continued to do so.
Razenth2010-02-24 03:45:52
Slivvens are easy for 85+ if you have the lines. I died cause I missed recklessness and am less than optimal against them cause I'm lazy and haven't gotten the lines, but otherwise they're not that hard. The only really big issues are A) room attack, so if someone else is in a module and they don't check their health occasionally, they're boned and B| life leech, which can drag out the fights a lot longer than necessary. And really, A) seems like its a design feature so just B|.
@ Talan: I got lucky once and spawned like, 10 of them within 2 minutes. Came back a few hours later and only 2 were left and couldn't spawn any more.
EDIT: Looking over the rankings, here are people I'm 90% positive made Demigod in whole or in part via aetherspace. I'm kinda sketchy on some of these names, especially the forestal ones, and I might've missed some. Feel free to correct! Also, there are probably people who made Demi who are off the rankings now. Not having their names in a nice ordered list, I didn't add them.

There is inherent pleasure in solving puzzles, interaction, the logic of coding, whatever. I demand payment when you think to test my patience. The only people who play games of "let's see who can be quiet the longest" are parents and their children.

RE: Slivvens are too hard:
Not enough orclach! Like most problems, stubborn Sliveens can be removed by liberally applying more Orclach to the trouble spots. If this doesn't work, you didn't use enough Orclach.
...that said, healthleech is obnoxious no matter what monster is using it. Many times, it's like a "health leech once, and start over!" thing.
RE: Demigod:
Keep it easy, keep it fun. Getting it has made me enjoy the game more. I got up into the 90's largely on my own, and at titan I bashed as much as I could, but the aetherspace did it, thank goodness.
Now, I've little mercy for people who are of very low circle regarding aetherspace. They have a lot of options, and the levels come pretty easy for a long time. I cringe whenever I hear anecdotes about people forgoing important guild skills to throw more into aetherspace. I also cringe when people seem to utterly limit themselves to it, up to and including the very concept of their characters.
