I don't recall anyone once ever even asking me, before unenemying someone, if they were enemied to Maylea. The cynics can assume they don't care, and the optimists can assume it's because they know that in the vast majority of cases we're going to unenemy once they've successfully gotten settled to unenemy from Serenwilde. (But not all cases. There are several people who got unenemied to Serenwilde and remain enemied to Maylea, and make no attempts to remedy this. Maybe you should be yelling at whoever handles unenemying as they're the ones not following their own rules.)
Everiine2010-03-04 04:48:18
I wasn't yelling at anyone, just really confused. Though I shouldn't be whenever politics are involved.
Lendren2010-03-04 05:33:48
Didn't say or mean that you were, just that maybe you ought. (Though I can see how it might have sounded that way in emotionless, inflectionless text.)

Iasmos, at least your enemy status isn't as bad as mine for Shadowdancers or Glom!
Escorting a novice; Albiorix on Earth; didn't have defenses up so I put up barbedtail in case he attacked; CT Albiorix on Earth; Albiorix dips out to Faethorn; I also go to Faethorn because I have a n00b who needs to get the Planar quest done; a minute later, enemied to Shadowdancers for "attacking a coven member".
True story. I won't go into the Glom enemying, since I don't feel like getting another ban from Evenpuff (or whoever else).
Also, inb4lock and "this isn't lack of rants" and/or "keep it civil".

Going into Glomdoring territory and attacking a Glom sounds like a pretty well earned enemy status.
As for Tynghall, it's surprising you weren't enemied sooner.

It really is. Oh well, I've given you guys plenty of LEGITIMATE reasons since then, so no worries. Could you guys unenemy me for "leaving for the enemy" (i.e. insulting Talan) and re-enemy me for "Aggressive actions against the Wyrd" or something along those lines?
I'd appreciate it.

Bitter, bitter man. Sounds like you need a hug.
The forum RP is amusing, though!

Started as an off-hand comment, but my agitated state spun it off into so much pointless ranting. Ah, well.
The playerbase could do a better job with defining what does and does not constitute proper reasons for earning an enemy status, but it's always going to be subjective and depend entirely on the other guy's perspective. The mechanics, however, suggest and almost demand that we take it a step further.
Yes, I would've earned enemy status to Glomdoring, had I not already obtained it. No, I don't feel there was any reason to be made an enemy of Viravain for 20 seconds of whacking someone who had one moment earlier been actively attacking Serenwilde, regardless of where I stood.

Find me someone who does, and I'll find you a purple kangaroo named Mack with a tattoo that says LOLA LOLAA on his right bicep.
I'm going to learn them all now just so you have to dye and tattoo a kangaroo.

Enemy status, like many other things, matters significantly less than how people simply choose to perceive you. It's only particularly obnoxious if people take it to mean you're open PK and will defend that as the only reason for them ever attacking you.
Ronny2010-03-05 03:40:16
Why would you even care if you're enemied? So long as the org you're in doesn't enemy you. All other enemy status mean nothing.

Yeah, sometimes I do get a little forum RP-y. But it's a rarity, I swear it!

I think it would be more fun if we had more forum RP. I miss Lack of Rants

Actually, some of the best times I had where when I was enemied to the Hartstone, Moondancers, White Hart, Moon, and Lisaera all at the same time. And still Serenguard GM.
Ronny2010-03-05 08:40:35
I meant if there is any time you feel pressured to get rid of enemy statuses, it's when your own org enemies you. Who cares about all other orgs? Even if you're allied, if you're enemied, don't defend them.

In typical fashion, I have come to summarize this thread to simplify it for everyone.
1) Chasing an invader is not, by any reasonable definition, raiding.
2) Still, organizations can enemy for any reason they want to. Killing (or attempting to kill) a citizen in an allied territory is an enemy-able offense, regardless of the reasoning.
3) Nobody cares about tracking down who is an enemy to a particular order before removing org enemy status. Primarily, it is because everyone is the enemy of some order, and contacting all of the order heads and such is way too much trouble and can't really be handled in any reasonable fashion. Besides which, I know of no order enemy statuses which did not first begin as an org enemy status anyway - they go hand in hand.
4) Everyone enemy Everiine. He likes it.
That is all. The thread can be closed now.

Except that the person who stated that went and looked at the definition of raiding, and then decided that the definition of raiding contradicts this standpoint.
Once you enter enemy territory, the whole situation changes, whether you're "chasing" someone or not.
You don't get to redefine raiding! Especially since your organization enemies people for raiding when they do this exact same thing.

Chasing an invader into their home territory means that you yourself are raiding. I mean, I guess you're welcome to use your own definition of raiding if you like, but everyone else's is that attacking mobs or players in an org's home territory is raiding.
