Subj: Vernal Power Upkeep

This is just a head's up that for every vernal god a city or commune
raises after the first vernal will begin having a power upkeep. The
upkeep gets progressively steeper, the more vernal gods that are raised.
Along with this, there will be a way for cities and communes to strip a
person of their vernal powers (and get a partial power refund).

We're not sure when these updates will be implemented but we wanted to
make sure you are aware that they are coming.

Penned by My hand on the 14th of Avechary, in the year 260 CE.

Start here.

Well it's not going to stop kick and runs.
Xenthos2010-03-20 23:43:47
Do we get the rest of the Ascendant / Demigod overhaul along with this?

Including the essence shop??

What I'm wondering is that if the power refund for stripping the VA is 33-50% and the Ascendant is bumped down to demigod with their current essence, what happens to the essence invested in Ascendance?
Eventru2010-03-20 23:44:08
@Xenthos: No.
Ssaliss2010-03-20 23:44:57
Hard to say anything specific, since we don't really know what kind of drain we're talking about... If it's a drain of a few hundred power per weave, it's not too bad since it can be offsetted by the domoths. A few thousand, it's worse.
Esano2010-03-20 23:45:10
Celest: Malicia

Magnagora: Thoros, Esano, Narsrim

Serenwilde: Nejii, Sarrasri, Gregori, Alianna, Lehki

Glomdoring: Ashai, Xenthos, Sidd, Urazial, Nyir, Krellan, Talan

I'm not sure how I feel about this. In one respect, it's good that it places a soft cap of the number of VAs you can have (or will, depending on how much it costs) but it will also likely lead to people being selected even more from the fighters' clique, as that's the one that's most likely to pay for their own upkeep.
Unknown2010-03-20 23:45:22
Overall I don't think it's a bad idea, just depends on how excessive the power upkeep ends up being.
Estarra2010-03-20 23:45:49
Here's the numbers we are the upkeep numbers thinking of:
  • One vernal ascendants = no cost
  • Two vernal ascendants = 2k per game month
  • Three vernal ascendants = 4k per game month
  • Four vernal ascendants = 8k per game month
  • Five vernal ascendants = 16k per game month
  • Six vernal ascendants = 32k per game month
  • Seven vernal ascendants = 64k per game month
  • Eight vernal ascendants = 128k per game month
  • etc.

To strip an ascendant:
  • Must have full council support
  • Restores 50% of power it cost to raise Vernal

Note if a Vernal Ascendant quits a city or commune, there will *not* be a 50% power refund--so you still have the opportunity to screw over your city or commune.

Obviously another overt move by the admin to slap down Glomdoring. First domoths, then this. What next, not being able to own all villages?

Ragequit.

P.S. Oh man harsh at above.

@Xenthos: No.

... aw.

Shouldn't this be part of an overall overhaul, so we can actually... do stuff with essence stockpiles? :/ Especially if you're making it cost more just for having us, when the mechanic wasn't even around when we spent the power on this in the first place.

And when we spent a huge amount of time bashing up essence to trans Ascendance.

Though on a serious note, I am interested to hear why you guys decided to do this now instead of way at the beginning.

Yeah. Holy censor.gif .
Lehki2010-03-20 23:49:07
Hrm, at those levels, I don't think more then at most four would ever be considered by any org. Which actually doesn't sound that bad to me.
Esano2010-03-20 23:49:18
Since the numbers are so high, I suggest releasing the Vernal-stripping a fair time ahead of the power-drain, to give time for the Councils to strip away the dead wood without incurring hundreds of thousands in power loss.
Xiel2010-03-20 23:49:56
What of the essence invested in Ascendance?

I think this is kind of unfair for the demigods who were raised from demigod to Vernal. One of the biggest reasons to raise someone is free instant demigod. But by raising a demigod from demigod to vernal ascendant the only gain is the ascendance skillset and domoth bonuses assuming you can even claim one. Not only that but demigods already lost 2/3rds of their essence to get raised, bashed to demi in the first place, and then run the risk of losing Vernal ascendance now.
Ssaliss2010-03-20 23:51:38
That's one heck of an upkeep... Not saying too much, but Glom would likely have to can three or four vernals if that happened.

The only "dead wood" we have right now would be Ashai and Nyir. Ashai is definitely going to go (no matter what the power cost, we want our power back from that), but Nyir kind of earned hers.

This is kind of an insane amount when we're already well past a tenable thing, and being VA shouldn't be something that people want to strip if you go inactive for a month.

At the most, I'd say peg the current amount Glom has (minus Ashai, so 6 Ascendants) at a 4k drain per month.

I look at those numbers and I really have to think... what? There's no way any org can upkeep 64k per month. Period. Or even 32k per month. And organizations are already well past those numbers.

Why the heck are you punishing us now? We're going to have to strip Vernal-hood from... active players, who have more than earned it.
