Right, at the very least, the ex VA gets everything they lost back.
Xiel2010-03-22 02:27:43
Pity with that 130+ million essence returned, demigods would still then run into the wee little wall of what to do with all that essence, and thus enter the whole being bored/stagnation talk.
Unknown2010-03-22 02:29:38
Not to mention what orgs will do with all this power now. VA used to give orgs something to use the power on, but now I guess we can have 100 guard clumps for afk influencing, yay, I guess.

Not making people step down.
Well if the incentive is good enough everyone will be scrambling to step down. As an example, I'd wager that that Sidd might happily step down for a 16+/16+/16+ weapon rune that nobody else in the game can own. I don't think it'd make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things but Sidd will be very happy and he can always compete to be VA later. You can keep VA because there is no one more deserving. Estarra is happy because balance in some sense has been restored, and nothing of this nature will ever happen again. When the essence shop comes out bored demigods and former VAs who have been refunded their essence, given some honours line, and unique artifact in hand can go to town and all will be right in the world..... Well at least until the playerbase grows large enough that sustaining 5+ VA becomes realistic, DUN DUN DUN!!!

Honestly, I don't think very many would be happy to step down, even for omgicanonlyhas exclusive arties. VA isn't just about the power, or the nice shinies for some. It obviously means a lot more than that, seeing as so many are hurt by this decision. Sometimes shinies just don't work. :\\

In my mind Vernal has never been a badge of honour like most people feel it is, and more of a contract between person and org. "We'll give you this status and power, and you'll keep working for our betterment." Sucks for people who might lose it and worked hard for trans ascendance thinking they'd never lose it and they probably deserve some compensation, but sometimes you just have to suck it up and let go.
Sidd2010-03-22 02:45:57
+16/+16/+16 rune doesn't really thrill me, especially if I were to change specs again, definitely not worth a whole skillset,
How about a Medallion of FearAura, a Circlet of Aegis and Earring of Omniscience

Nexus guardians. We can finally afford to use them.
Sylphas2010-03-22 02:47:05
Letting them keep Omniscience would be kind of cool. Although I'm not a vernal, so I dunno.
Nymerya2010-03-22 02:47:07
Also sucks for the non-vernals who had a chance, however remote, of getting it and no longer being able to, too.

Here is how to soften the blow, Estarra:
Give them back their essence and then open an essence shop filled with RP goodies. Give them a special honors. Make ascendant stripping have two methods. Dishonorable and honorable. Two different honors for each. Now that is an achievement to try and hold both lol.

Right. This is kind of irking me. They (Estarra and Roark) can do Cosmic and Warrior guilds for both cities, or they can stop and do a full demigod/endgame review (because that's what it would most likely entail - a complete review of demigods and ascendants). Either way, they'd be coding for quite a while. The storygoes the same with Sior and monthly envoy reports etc - and I'm still learning, and pretty rudimentary at that.
You all keep acting as if this 'essence shop' is going to be 'quick' or 'easy'. Every time the idea is bandied about (and even up here, as it has its supporters!), there's a lack of a lot of things that would make it viable. I'm really not going to get into it - it isn't viable right now. We don't have the resources. We don't have -a lot- of things for a review of it that will require what will be weeks of debating and discussing exactly what this will do or how this is going to affect that, and -then- it's going to take someone a few hundred hours of coding to really get it in, in anything that would remotely resemble a complete system. A system that you all would be really happy with, enjoy, and go 'Oh man Estarra, have you seen my socks?!'
An end game review is on the long list of things we'd really love to do, and I've heard Est say it many times on the forums. But we do have our hands full. Everyone is busting butt on a bunch of different projects at every end of the spectrum. We hear you. This is what you really want to see. And the next time we open a focus poll, I encourage you, if this is what you want to see (in lieu of a review of the Great House System, or a review of Nexus World Conflict, or a review of whatever else is going to be on this list), to vote for it.
No one is ignoring you, no one is pocket-vetoing the idea. It's just there's other things that are deemed as more important right now, so they're dealing with them right now.
Some day, my little ducklings.

I understand that, that's wonderful, we'll love those guilds or whatever it is and it will be wonderful. But you're asking us for ideas while at the same time saying you don't have the time to use any of them, which amounts to saying "oh well, guess we're stuck with the original plan and not budging". Soft capping vernals is a bandaid solution that should be addressed in a comprehensive review and not a one-off "fix" in the middle of other stuff.
Eventru2010-03-22 03:11:11
An essence shop does not address the problem. It's a shiny trinket to distract people from pain from what some people view as a quad-limb amputation.
There's a distinct difference between 'Adjusting the figures in x manner and adjusting the cost at y rate' and 'code an entirely lollipop so we don't see the needle', in my opinion. It really feels like 'Well you're not budging, so I'm going to whine and hope you'll give me something else I want'.

Man, only a quad-limb amputation?
You've got it easy. No wings to lop off as well. You will not miss the sky.

It's not a badge of honour until you risk having it taken away.
