But this change doesn't encourage spreading out at all.

Tell guyyouwant sup, we'll give you demi for 500k power, you in?

Tell fighteryouwanttokeep nooo don't go, we'll do it first because you're such a swell guy.

Also, friends are tough to leave.

Edit:
Wait I lied, it will probably help those VA's who want to orghop but can't because they're VA. So I guess you're right afterall!
Xenthos2010-03-21 03:20:45
I think we should give Albiorix, Vadi, and Crek free Demigod. Hmm.

What do you think?

3 free instant demigods, PLUS a gain of 500,000 power. ohmy.gif

Oh hey, add me to the wait list.

Yeah there are few people in Gaudi that could greatly help the city by getting demi too. Pity, we don't have any VA's to recycle.

Hey, that net gain of 500,000 power will have us pretty close to a fourth Demigod!
Unknown2010-03-21 03:26:00
How does it aid spreading out?

Because, regardless of how much it doesn't/does impact combat, people want VA. Not just demi. I don't know why, I certainly don't want the hassle.

So there's the demi-factory argument. See above. Now, I won't put words into their mouths, but that seems to me something that the admin could just say "don't abuse it, dorks".

And, like I've said repeatedly, it's not going to break apart Glom-mart, but it does provide a little incentive to not just go where the VA train is actually leaving the station. As for going for where it's easiest to replace one, that's an acedemic argument that doesn't take into account the inevitable drama of taking it away from some other party the mystery fighter is "better than."

Taking it away from nobody, on the other hand- that is, an org with an empty slot? That's pretty drama free.

Unless it's Munsia. Then there would probably be drama. But that's Munsia.

Sarcasm and bawwing solves everything.

Uhh... orgs won't have empty slots. That is, after all, the point of a limited number of slots / a hard cap.

Once they're filled, it's all replacements. Further, you can still keep 2 Vernals at almost no cost, and still have the Demi train functioning at essentially full speed.

I highly doubt the admin would step in to police what an org does with its own power unless they really feel up to coding in 'previous state' for mortals pre-ascension then reverting them back to their old level if they quit. Even then, what happens to Talkan or Desitrus? Apparently you don't want grandfathering, so what then? And so on.

Of course they will. Gaudi and halli have completely empty slots, for starters. (I mean, duh, and it's temporary, in the long run, but in all likelyhood real life YEARS away, unless macro balance actually ever changes). Celest and Seren have people that are near or utterly inactive. Empty slots. Mag has at least one empty slot right now, and they're easily second in combat potential.

Even in the most literal sense, only Glom and Seren really don't have "slots" at this point. And Seren only doesn't if their largely inactive/semiactive VAs pour out of the woodwork and become ragingly active again to defend their badge.
Sylphas2010-03-21 03:32:29
Actually, now I'm kind of liking this change. Much easier to get easy demi for 500k than it is to get the responsibilities of Vernal for 1 million, so my chances are much improved!

Hey Kettle, I'm Pot.

But seriously, sarcasm in the appropriate manner can draw attention to serious issues. So far what I've seen in this thread is an evolution from complaining about why this is a bad idea, to proof positive how this bad idea could be used to create an even worse situation. Capping VAs, at least in the manner proposed at the moment, will just create another problem - the possibility of too many Demi's. If VAs are raised for combat purposes, and then we're told we can only have so many, what's to stop the raising of Demi's for the exact same purpose, and with the same result, sans a few skills?

Magnagora does not really have slots, as Thoros has kind of returned. Serenwilde doesn't have slots, what with Sarrasri / Lehki / Iasmos (as they were just about to raise one). Glomdoring does not. Gaudiguch / Hallifax / Celest will use up their slots (Celest has a fair bit of power right now to burn up a slot, in fact). Mag doesn't have the power income for 4 VAs, heh.

First one is free remember. Seren has a slot. Thoros logging on for a day isn't really active, but even if he is? Mag still has a slot, right now. Halli/Gaudi won't have the power income for real life YEARS to fill their slots, unless something really drastic happens with macro balancing. It's a bit like worrying about Ethiopia emerging as a devestating economic powerhouse. And, Celest has power, and a slot? Well then, case in point! Minor incentive for a good fighter to fill it.

I think I actually only hit one pit in all of that. I was expecting to find them around all the Prime glom entrances after the first few hours. <,<

You didn't read the numbers, then. Let's repeat them.

* One vernal ascendants = no cost
* Two vernal ascendants = 2k per game month
* Three vernal ascendants = 4k per game month
* Four vernal ascendants = 8k per game month

* Five vernal ascendants = 16k per game month
* Six vernal ascendants = 32k per game month
* Seven vernal ascendants = 64k per game month
* Eight vernal ascendants = 128k per game month
* etc.

Not even Glomdoring at the moment has the net power income for 4, though we could manage it with some scrambling and reorganization. Thoros / Narsrim / Esano is Magnagora's three. Lehki / Sarrasri / new VA that Serenwilde just selected would be Serenwilde's three.

So, yeah, I think you're mis-counting somewhere.

Man, comms are expensive, Glom should reimburse me, then they'll see more pits.

Carry on.
