Crap... I got 78 WPM, but I overwrote the "official" results I'd copied to the clipboard (by copying something else) before I navigated back here to post. I think I was 29,000-something out of 333,000-something? That's still in the top 10%.

I agree with an earlier poster in that typing strings of unrelated, unstructured words is not an ideal way to test typing speed. You have to essentially read one word at a time, and only two small lines are displayed at any given time. My reading speed and comprehension are astronomical, so I can glance at a paragraph, memorize three or four good-sized sentences in a moment, and just start typing.

I think I've gotten somewhere between 90-100 WPM typing speed doing tests where you're given paragraphs to transcribe.

...That being said, to my shame, I still use a two-fingered typing style. It's not hunt-and-peck — I do not need to look at the keyboard — but my form is still piss-poor. I wonder how much my typing speed would improve if I learned to type properly?

It probably wouldn't until you'd been doing it for a while. My typing is not "proper" either. It's not two-fingered, and it's definitely touch, but I use all the fingers of my right hand and only two on my left generally (which is odd, given I'm left handed).



This particular test gave me 83 wpm... usually I test at about 120.

I was thinking the same thing.

If I type accurately, I do 60ish WPM on the random, and 75ish WPM on the paragraph.

Yes, I did do multiple tests and average. I'm a stickler for a nice average.

I'm not particularly surprised by my result, though I goofed up twice (I hit ; instead of l - annoying! Had to backspace!! Grrr!)





Edit: Jesus, I got through that but I can't write a sentence properly.

And as a note, I got my first computer when I was seven. Windows 3.1! Man! Old School! I learned to type on my own, and that 106 wpm was, what my keyboarding teacher called, 'barbarically assaulting the keyboard'. Or, hunt and pecking. Yea, I have the keyboard memorized. Which I'm sure most people do. Muaha. (Good news is, I'm far less likely to develop carpal tunnel, due to having started at a very young age. Muahaha!)

I do too, just means that you can write in the letters of the keyboard on someone's face if they fall asleep on it. >.>

A few more results at unsustainable breakneck speeds. Note the huge gap in rank between 98 and 104wpm. ~100 wpm seems to be some threshold that a very large number of people struggle to break.



Also since I posted traffic to the site seems to have increased significantly. (300k rankings -> 400k) Nicholo's score of 444 was previously good for position 1604 but now it's only 1966!

To be fair this was on my third try...



Hmm perhaps I should consider switching career paths.
