Won't say too much, but I loved his announcement! Can't wait for it to happen.

Aw, can't you just post a synopsis here? I don't have a good enough connection at work to watch video...

Here's a recap of Roark's big announcement:
SKILLFLEX
- You'll be able deactivate skills (i.e., make them dormant).
- You will have the option to completely forget the skills and cannibalize them for lessons (i.e., no change from forgetting skills now).
- At the cost of 50 lessons (or 25 lessons for specializations), you can activate a skillset IF AND ONLY IF you are in a guild that allows you to activate the skill and there's room to activate it. In other words, skillchoice limitations will not change.
- There will be some limits on how often you can activate skillsets.
Benefits will be:
- Keep skillsets whole but in reserve if you guild hop.
- Allow easier method of swapping among trade skills without having to relearn them.
- Allow easier method of swapping among guild skill without having to relearn them, such as knights can swap between weapon specializations or mages among telepathy specializations or tertiary skills, etc. Remind that there will be limits to how often you can swap.

I'm suddenly in need of 350 credits...

Holy indeed.

We must be getting this instead of just having a second tradeskill available through some other means.
I really like it. Would love to see what it's like once implemented.

Yeah, I love the Tradeskill part. I've been wanting to leave artisan, but I'm quite invested there... This just might convince me to switch tradeskills.

@Roark re: dreamweaving (in case he's listening in on this).
I noticed that the teleport-y issue would happen when Link gets used.
Also: skillflex hooooooo.

Could those numbers possibly be adjusted to be a multipe of six, so we don't to like... buy 9 credits for 54 lessons so we can switch back to a trans skill and have 4 lessons with nothing to spend them on?
Xiel2010-04-11 20:22:40
WAIT A MINUTE.
So, as a cook right now, it'll only cost me 50 lessons to activate say, Herbs rather than dropping another 300cr to learn up Herbs first and 50 lessons to switch back and forth?

I love you guys, and I'm glad you're getting around to this, but you're putting in something that already exists in Imperian (and which is in the works for Aetolia) except you're charging for it...
I could understand a really slight charge, like 6 or 12 lessons per skillset or something, as an alternative to making them sit there and "relearn" the skillset for like 1-2 hours (how Imperian does it). But 9 credits per skillset seems a bit high to me, unless it was a trade skill which has the purpose of making money.

50 lessons is a really slight charge, 6-12 lessons is trivial, like maybe 30-45 minutes of bashing.

I would rather have to pay in time instead of lessons with a cooldown, of course.
Cool stuff though.

I'm assuming that when you skillflex you'll start off at inept, meaning you'd have to spend 50 lessons plus 300 credits to trans herbs.

Mirami2010-04-11 20:52:22
What Ssaliss said. You'd have to learn herbs again, but when you learned it, you could pay 50 lessons to switch (provided you kept Lowmagic).
Xiel2010-04-11 21:09:29
Speculation would be dandy with admin approval! Cause shelling out 300cr per tradeskill I wanna be able shift to freely will...cost a lot. ._.
