Speculation would be dandy with admin approval! Cause shelling out 300cr per tradeskill I wanna be able shift to freely will...cost a lot. ._.
I would assume they'll use the justification of "So it should"!
Although personally, I'd prefer if there was a small cost, perhaps higher than 50 lessons, to first learn the new skillset if you skillflex and after that you can switch freely. Or just no cost at all to skillflex!
Lehki2010-04-11 21:20:38
I can't believe that the admin are putting in a feature to making switching skills so much easier and less costly, and people are asking for it to be even cheaper then suggested.

Honestly... yeah.
I want this.
I can be Crow & Night, woooooo... oh, wait, wtf.
If I switch to Night, what happens to my Crow stuff? Do I lose my totem and nest and everything? That's a lot of carrion and time invested!
Zallafar2010-04-11 21:28:09
From my listening to the broadcast, you can only make the 50 lesson switch to a skillset that was previously made dormant. So yeah, if you want to switch among 5 trans tradeskills you need to have put in the nearly 1500 credits.

It would behave just as if you'd forgotten the skill, I imagine.

That's... unpleasant.
Guess no Night for me. Sigh.

Can you reactivate skills if you are rogue?

Well, otherwise there's a totem that's bonded to a night user, which is obviously unfair - either it's active and affecting people, or we have to code something special so it's inactive, but then there's totems that aren't going to work for defenses etc that no one can bond...
And nests/unbonding are all tied together if my memory serves, atm.
Xiel2010-04-11 21:47:21
I have no problems with totems poofing just as they would if people forgot skills normally. I just need to save up more credits now to be able to switch comfortably and get trade arties. ._.

They are. That's why I asked.
No real point in learning Night if it screws up the nest though, lose tons and tons of carrion-related stuff (egg, nest, all the carrion in it), plus the totem itself. Meh.
Kind of sad to me that Crow has this inbuilt penalty. At least with Stag you only lose the totem itself.
Do any other guild skills have things that get lost like this when you forget them?
Xiel2010-04-11 22:04:18
You mean like losing the boost from Ecology charms? I mean, you're losing the skill boosts of one set in favour of another, so I don't really see the problem with it. It'd make you worry about shifting so often, sure, but I don't think that rebuilding a totem would be so problematic.

Sorry, but 335 carrion is pretty prohibitive, as is having to rebond your totem every time (and hope someone doesn't steal it).
There's a difference between losing the boost and having the entire thing just unravel; are ecology charms destroyed when you forget ecology?

I think this will create an influx of credit purchases for Lusternia (damn my cynical mind).
First people will want to trans other skills, especially trade skills. So there's credits.
Second people who trans tradeskills will want to purchase more clans and cartel them up so to be trademaster in multiple different trade cartels, so to create stuff for themselves.
Third people may not want to fork out for a cartel, so buys clanslots to get into those cartels.
Great business acumen!
EDIT: Oh and not to forget those people that buy credits (whether in game or out of game) just to get those 50 lessons to switch back and forth.

Oh, it's a great idea, don't get me wrong.
I'm all over it for trade skills, and maybe even weapon sets; I'm just asking about a concern I have when it comes to primary specializations, in that it seems like using it for a switch between Crow and anything else is overly prohibitive (though no real loss when switching between Night and Tracking, switching to either from Crow loses a fair chunk of work / time).
Other than that one issue, I'm really happy with this!

I'd guess that sacraments-users lose access to Holylight that they've stored up.

-already one step ahead-
Now, just to save up credits for learning and trade arties!
@Xenthos: And no, the charms don't decay. Just thinking about that Crow problem just brings up other coding things to consider (and it's already quite a bit) and unless they're wanting to make it so that nests just become something you hold (a la cauldrons), I don't see them doing much to just overhaul the design to accomodate Crow, sadly. Though you can try and envoy nests just becoming teeny tiny portable things, but totem reversions can't be helped, I think. -ponder-
Lehki2010-04-11 22:26:46
Think Xenthos has valid point about carrion. I can't think of any other skill set that has something similar to carrion that would be lost completely upon switching. I can't really think of a great solution if the admin decided to do anything about it... best I've got is save the amount of carrion upon deactivating the skill and then adding that into the first totem them bond upon re-activating the skill.

You have 9 globes of Holy Light entwined with your soul.
Ps. If I wasn't saving up for a cameo, I'd totally switch to lowmagic and skillflex herbs.
Xenthos2010-04-11 22:30:40
And Night Cauldrons don't decay.
Holy Light and Night Cauldrons are the only other long-term acquirable things I can think of for these skillsets.
Also, the only reason Crow / Stag totems unbond upon forgetting the skill was people quitting and leaving their totems tuned, right? Could alternatively not unbond the totem but just make it not fire if you don't have the skillset activated (and you can't renew it without the skillset being activated as totem renew is a skill in Crow / Stag).
Also wouldn't be able to put new carrion into the nest without having Crow.

Well, if they made nests 'dettachable' and last like cauldrons do before being able to be re-attached to a totem, it could work-ish. Especially if they cut the carrion decay when you forget Crow, I think.
@above:
Small enough to carry, the cauldron is made from an iron that is as black as
pitch and as cold as ice. Upon extremely close examination, small glyphs are
slightly raised around the cauldron's lip that squirm and shift into different
patterns. Within the cauldron itself is a shifting morass of shadows that
swallows all light that tries to penetrate its depths.
It has 144 months of usefulness left.
It holds 102 gathered shadows.
It weighs about 18 pounds.
It bears the distinctive mark of Prince Viynain Stormcrow, Savant of Darkness.
They decay, but last quite awhile. If they made what I mentioned above, it should help with that aspect, but it'd probably still have to be envoyed.
