that is all
Ssaliss2010-04-17 04:21:05
Why?
Unknown2010-04-17 04:25:58
I rather enjoy it being peaced. I can go there to meet someone for cooking, and not worry about someone jumping me. Don't unpeace it!
Saran2010-04-17 04:28:55
...yeah, it was peaced for a reason. If someone is abusing it then that's another issue
Ssaliss2010-04-17 04:33:48
That's mostly my sentiments as well. It would be intersting to hear an argument as to why it should be unpeaced though.
Unknown2010-04-17 04:34:30
Oh boy I sure missed it when you got jumped while you were searching for portal shops.
Oh wait no I don't.

Well, I was just talking to people who were complaining about the lack of 1v1 combat in Lusternia.
My theory was that there's no 1v1 combat because there's no "North of Thera" or "Aryana's Spring" type of area, which in Lusternia used to be the aetherplex.
Another idea people in one of my chat clans are tossing around is an organization you join (player flag) that lets you do forced 1v1 combat on the prime plane that either interacts with the avenger system (duel person instead of declare, if they're already dueling you can only declare them) or just teleports you to a tiny arena like an Imperian event did.

What's wrong with 1 north of the plex then, or any other unpeaced room? Heck, do it on some nonprime plane and you won't even need to care about avenger.
Unknown2010-04-17 04:40:42
Because the reason that NoT, etc. were the places where people fought at, was that they were a crossroads in the game that lots of people would go to and then run into and interact with people from other orgs. A random room that no one has a reason to be at can't fulfill that purpose.

Why not interact there and if you want to fight, take it one north?
Zallafar2010-04-17 04:47:27
If a crossroads will do, then you have the Grand Junction where the Imperial Highway and the Great Southern Highway meet.
Or the Ackleberry Triple Junction which is pretty near the Aetherplex.

Yeah, except not. As Sojiro said it was just getting jumped at the 'plex while going through shops trying to find something. Teleporting to a tiny area? Arenas...
Any idea that you come up with that allows a single player to force another player into a battle that works around the avenger... probably going to be used constantly unless it is with consent, and if it is with consent then they can walk somewhere that they can battle

The Aetherplex was peaced because certain people decided, during the Toy Wars, to sit at it and kill anyone trying to go turn in toy corpses - so they could turn them in, instead.
Not to prevent 'griefing' or so people had a peaceful place to gather cross-org or whatever the latest misconception is.
It's up to Estarra to remove it though - just clearing that point up.

Lol.
Aetherplex was never NoT.
Aetherplex is where all the rogue snugglies clans congregated to screw around and be annoying towards various passersby.

And that doesn't make you want to kill them?
It's not a huge deal to me personally. I came here to RP and do some team combat, and I've definitely gotten that out of it. But I still think it's an idea worth floating because a lot of people liked having a place to go and beat their chest at where people would see them.

Ah the memories. Go figure when people are douchebags, things get taken away.
But this is a good change, keep it as is.
Xavius2010-04-17 05:57:11
The Aetherplex was the only place you could jump someone as a demesne holder. Too much patience required for tracking targets anywhere else.
The best part of this thread is that it's the haughty noncoms who'll eat the most dirt if it gets changed back. Foresight fail, ahoy!

As an artisan (even if not today) I really was glad the Aetherplex was peaced. It's bad enough that my trade, unlike everyone else's, requires me to follow not-necessarily-trustworthy people into not-necessarily-known places, but it also required a meeting place that used to be quite dangerous in itself sometimes, even if the customer wasn't. I've been afraid that the reasons it was peaced (the Toy event) being over would mean we'd lose that, but I've been enjoying it while it lasts.
But I wonder what kind of abuses the peacing really leads to. I don't buy the "people being idiots when you can't touch them" argument because people being idiots where you can't touch them is the defining trait of the Lusternian experience most days. At least here it's somewhere that you really never have any reason to have to spend more than a few minutes.

You have the Azoth-abuse of kicking & running to the Aetherplex, or killing a newbie and running to the Aetherplex.
Even with it unpeaced he'd just be able to go to the Portal of Fate though, but I think he liked the Aetherplex because there were more people passing through there so he could "brag" about his "awesomeness".
I don't think it's really an issue if the Aetherplex itself stays peaced though simply because the PoF is not so far away from there. While I have in the past scalped people there who were being really annoying (and then let them run off to wherever to cure before bleeding out), it's not like it adds much to the game. There are better things to do than hang out at the aetherplex, but for those who do want to hang out there, wondering if an unfriendly demesne is sitting on the other side when you go through is not the best.

I like that it's peaced, but there should be a mechanic to prevents individuals from being protected by that peace (either by not allowing entrance or by just letting attacks hit this person) when they've been involved in a "raid-like" situation over the course of the last several minutes or so.
People will always be able to hide in a manse or at somewhere else no one else can reach you, but you shouldn't be allowed to kick-and-run-and-brag...
As for the whole duel thing, I'd recommend the Triple Junction, as they used to do years ago when the game first opened.
