That sounds more like coming up. Going down should be ok, until the pressure is too high where you're just crushed. Maybe what you suggested happens when going up, and going down your ears rupture and bleed, your skeleton gets crushed, etc.

This is a good point. I wonder if I can convince Estarra to let us make it so if you move between layers too quickly you'll be instakilled by DysbaricPressure....

Here is my theorys on why we cant go outside the mountains (prepare for it to be wrong):
#1. Outide the basin is a void of nothingness that would destroy us all so the divines wanted to protect us so they put a barrier at the mountains to protect us from the void until the void (or at least pieces of it) can be deemed habitable
#2. outside the basin is the other iron realms games...
