The title already says what this is about. I've never really figured out the skills use. But that's not the main reason I posted this. During some tested I found out changeself accepts numbers and that kinda messed things up for me

first: why are there several numbers that are being skipped over? that just seems weird to me.
second: really i don't care for the numbers, could that part be changed? i have something that sends a random number and each number should correspond with the list of races i actually wish to turn into, but since changeself allows illusions it takes the races that correspond with each number and skips over the ones in my list that correspond with the numbers that are skipped. I wish this could be changed so it doesn't accept numbers and only the races.

I understand that this doesn't really affect many or any others, but it affects me and I just ask that it be changed if possible. If it can't be I will accept that fact, but it just really messes up what I'm trying to do.

sidenote: could the skill actually be given some type of use? i only use it to fill up my defenses.

Only use I can think of is stopping people from knowing your racial weaknesses, if you're not very well known (or a changeling) people wont know.

The skipped ones could easily be Divine or some other restricted race. Pretty sure you used to be able to changeself into them and they fixed it.

Either way, if your script is sending an actual number to changeself, it probably needs reworked. If you use Lua and MUSHclient, this should do it. Just remove any races you don't want to use from the list:

If you want to stick to using numbers, you could always use a random number between 1 and 21 (or however many races there are) and then add 1 if the random number happens to be above 12. If there are more skipped numbers, add in another exception.

I always used the skill for shock factor.

I'm well aware of that, but you could be RPing, say, a changeling who doesn't want people to know their a changeling. They keep their cameo off just so that it isn't known, then CHANGESELF into the race they want to be seen as. That's legitimate RP.

I think a lot of people are way too rigid and way too concerned about game mechanics though. dry.gif

I like it, it's a nice flavor skill. Not everything has to give you some kind of bonus to be viable. Now, if you really want to ask a valid question about illusions, you should ask 'Why the hell is sparkles so censor.gif high in the illusion skill?' At least changeself provides some sort of flavor use. Sparkles is just magical confetti, and doesn't need to be so high up.

I use changeself a lot just for fun. I even have descriptions written for a couple other races besides my usual one, for when I use it. tongue.gif It might not be "useful", but it is one of my favorite things!

I imagine changeself would be a lot more fun to use to screw with people if you also happened to be a changeling, too. Makes me sad I can't use it.

Exactly what I was saying earlier! happy.gif Take off your cameo and no one knows you're a changeling, since it only shows you as a changeling if you wear it.

I use mudlet, but this worked. Thanks.
I still wish this skill had some use beyond hiding racial weakness, especially if someone knows what race you are and not everyone has the credits or money to get a changeling cameo.

As a general addendum, for those that don't know, you can also do this with WEAVE TERRAIN. Granted, weaving terrain has a mechanical advantage in that it stops mages from changing the ground type or melding.

lol. Syridean!? Remember? TERRAIN FIGHT! We got through....30 terrains at the Pool before someone asked what we were doing...But anyways, I use changeself like Phoebus. I have written descriptions for a few races I frequent: Kephera, Merian, Human, Faeling, Elfen, Trill, Lucidian, and Illithoid(jk!). It really does work with changeling brooch. It is hard to tell what race I am!
