Astrology and Tarot both seem decidedly illuminati to me.

But I just have this image in my head of Sayochi reading people's fortunes, foretelling doom by the movement of stars, and dealing okorushi joints out of the Palace of Pleasure.

Edit: And why do people think the Illuminati are all soulless-y? sad.gif I've always gotten a very 'chaotic good' vibe from Gaudiguch!

Astrology just feels too..exact. Its very very Lucidian. Which fits since they're the ones who invented it.

And Tarot fits, but again, it feels a bit.. rigid? It has set images and meanings and its all very well laid out. But it definitely fits better than Hexes.

As for the Souless-y feeling, I think that is going to be because the Soulless are pretty obviously Lovecraft's Great Old Ones, and the Illuminati are pretty obviously students of Lovecraft's Mythos. However, I wasn't suggesting a Soulless-tinged Tet when I meant black stars and mad constellations. Just things that would drive people crazy to see and comprehend.

I definitely would have thought Illuminati would have had Healing. I mean.. they can transfigure things pretty freely as it is.

Definitely not. Especially because of the Papaxi effect on abilities.

They don't (to me) seem based as students of Lovecraft's Mythos. That said, I'm not very familiar with it (at Estarra's urging, I've forced myself to read a couple pieces). They've always struck me - and again, I'm just not big into the Illuminati - quite what you'd expect them to be if they existed in our 'real' world (or as people say they are, claiming they very much exist!). Very much so the Bavarian Illuminati/Masons, new world order sort of thing.

Plus the whole 'the body is a thing that can be changed'. I can only speak for myself but, were I an illuminati (which are totally sick and I would totally be one, though I'd be torn between the Institute and Celestines and Illuminati and, well, they're all just so wonderful, I'd probably be the next Shaddus - you know it's true!), I'd take the mentality of 'just perfecting' on Dynara's creation, using what She would have. The fleshpots were, after all, what Dynara used to create Elder Gods - so in a way, it's just a step closer to godliness! There's the whole 'secret society' aspect and 'backroom manipulation', but they'd take the mentality of it being 'for the greater good'.

That is, I must stress, just me. You all may take the Illuminati in a completely different direction!

How do we know you aren't already Shaddus in disguise? ninja.gif

Also, what I said about giving them Hexes instead of Healing, which seems to have been missed by everyone. >.>

Because E and I get together on the weekends when Fain can't make it to the sauna, and plan out bad things to do to people. Usually with cake. Not doing bad things to people with cake, but we eat the cake.

Are you sure about that?

The whole idea of the Mythos is that there is a reality beyond what normal people see. If said normal people are shown that reality, it drives them insane. The insanity aspect of the Illuminati's "Enlightenment" is really what gives them the Lovecraftian vibe, at least in my mind. If they were just a secret society, that would be one thing. But being privy to another reality which drives people insane is pretty Mythos-y.

Aw, how come you never invite me? sad.gif I'm a useful skunk! Not like those little forest critters that just eat and stink.

Because Eventru is usually naked in the sauna. Are you sure you want to be there?
Shulamit2010-06-28 02:52:02
I gotta agree with the mythos vibe, specially with the whole, man wasn't meant to know stuff. I've played in call of cthulhu games. Body changing happened a fair deal (oh look, guns, normally a good way to kill humans, suddenly got put back into the, not good pile), with protective blubber spells, etc. And....they wear robes. Robes, man....evil....cultist robes.

Remember children, if Kethuru promises to give you power to let him come to your world, just say no!
Noola2010-06-28 02:54:47
Boy'm I glad I've never read any of these books so I don't have any of these preconceived ideas.

Maybe. <.<

Although I would much prefer if it was Morgfyre. wub.gif halo.gif
Eventru2010-06-28 03:01:04
Last time we invited Morgfyre he ate the nice lady who sells us freezy-pops.

(...Now he whispers to us in her voice after Aunty 'tarra tucks us in at night. It's bloody creepy, and we have to go wake up Terentia to beat him into silence. Kalikai's the only one who gets to sleep through it, since she's generally blacked out anyways.)

... wow, I'm the worst thread hijacker ever. New guilds. Talk about them. *goes off to fantasize about Morgfyre*

Woah, I didn't know that! Where'd we get that info IG? That's great.

@Narrative: it's not really "an" alternative reality, so much as one shaped by your perspective, one per individual - kinda like old WoD Mage, or Umineko no Naku Koro Ni.
Arel2010-06-28 03:43:25
Are the new guilds going to have the spec race added in for Aeonics? Is this a bug that we don't have them, or just something that hasn't been gotten around to yet?
Shaddus2010-06-28 03:43:49
Wait, so... Fleshpots are Divine Wombs?

Hot.
Eventru2010-06-28 03:47:31
Cosmic Planes are all divine wombs. I'm certain Estarra's said before that while Continuum is a dead creche - IE everyone's all grown up and left - Vortex is, instead, an unborn plane, one of the last places Dynara created before She left to find the Nameless Son. So full of potential!
Shaddus2010-06-28 03:49:43
Vortex is a slut.
