I only meant for it to a) clear skunk, and b) be cute and funny in a dingbat-artifact sort of way. I'll amend the post above to be explicit about it not clearing those things.

The Shadow Shroud is an already existing artifact that currently costs 500cr and does nothing but provide shroud. This form of shroud is still negated with faeriefire and similar skills, making the cost quite dubious for the value received.
It is my understanding that as opposed to adjusting prices, we would rather come up with ways to make artifacts more interesting and worthy of the price tag they carry, so here is my suggestion:
In addition to shroud, give the Shadow Shroud the added bonus of a percent chance of misdirecting skills that detect what room you are in. Or, more simply, make it appear that you are in a room other than the room you are actually in. This percent can be low (5-15%), more for flavour than a guaranteed hindrance, and can otherwise be debated or narrowed in what it affects to prevent it from being too absurdly powerful without copying some other skill/ability/artifact.

I like your ideas, and your approach. That said, generally speaking I think the last thing Lusternia needs is more ways to be unfindable and uncatchable. In fact, I'd be far more likely to support this if you went the other way with it and made it so the shroud, by immersing you in the shadows, gave you a chance to see other shrouded people as if they weren't shrouded. I bet they'd sell a lot of those.

But.... that's what Thirdeye does, right?

No. That's what Faeriefire does.
Thirdeye doesn't let you see the person move in / out of the room, and certain actions that they do are also shrouded even if you have thirdeye up. You just see them in the room.

This. The most notable of these used to be seeing when someone writhed out of entanglements, back when thornrend was (more) viable.
Having said that, I think Lendren's variation on a buff sounds pretty keen too, and would be pleased to see either mine or his implemented.

A simple faeriefire artie would probably also sell, and has been suggested already, I believe.
Siam2010-03-21 20:50:43
An RNG artifact! (Maybe a 3-digit RNG would do nicely)

An artie you can replicate in one line of code?

Yep, but I was just chiming in with a way to improve the Shroud -- and it wouldn't be quite the same, because it would only have a chance of working, and it would be passive.

We do have dice and spinning bottles and a rune of dimensional instability already.

An artifact that gives the Magelock ability (freeze doors shut).

Portable Battering Ram -
Allows the following commands
BATTER DOOR: Functions like the doorblast spell, allowing you to break down doors. Reinforced doors are either immune or take much longer to blast.
BATTER WALL: see above, applies to icewalls and stonewalls instead.
The Wisp-o-Matic Dispellatron -
Allows the following commands
WISP: Burn down briar walls in the supplied direction! Guaranteed* 90%** efficiency***!
DISPELLATE: Placate and penetrate those pesky, pernicious Phantomwalls! Never* worry* about another phantomwall again***!
*claim not backed by vonFixit industries due to subjectivity.
**claim not investigated by the Gnomish Business Authority.
***time and efficiency are not ensured after first use per day, nor are products insured in case of breakage, malfunction, or death of user due to improper use of the device.

Reinforced doors currently do not (and should not) have any method to penetrate, considering they're generally restricted to things like stockrooms (not so much of an issue now?) and other special locations. They should also perhaps be removed from aetherships that can be boarded, but that's a separate issue. Beyond that, no problems with a doorblast arti, although obviously it's just another enchantment replacer. Crash, of course, can handle walls.
The Wisp-o-Matic Dispellatron seems in the same vein - an ignite enchant, but restricted to briarwalls for some reason, plus the ability to dispell phantomwalls.

So, I figure I might as well convert my irksome energy at the lag situation into something positive. Thus, an idea was born! How about..a wee little artifact mannequin that you can buy for your manse shop? And these mannequins will essentially be able to display an entire tailoring ensemble on the mannequin and being able to set a price tag to buy one thing or the entire outfit that's displayed on the doll. Placing the same clothing restrictions on the mannequin as adventurers would have (so that they don't have layers which can't possibly happen), the shopkeepers would be able to manage this in their stockrooms.
With commands like:
PRICE -
They'd be able to handle the price for individual things or the whole outfit.
PRICE PLACE- ON
This'll let the shopkeeper dress the mannequin according to what they'd like.
And of course, from the buyer's point of view, they'd be able to PROBE the mannequin (which will be listed in IH or in another specially attached bin to the shop) to see the things on the mannequin as well as the individual/total price for the things placed on it. PROBE- ON
will show specific things as opposed to a whole outfit.
No idea how much that'd cost...ideally something cheap (50cr - 75cr maybe) as long as it's properly limited to only be bought for a specific manse shop. No refunds, if the manse shop is sold, the mannequins would go with the shop too (like manse arties currently do now).
Hooray some tailor loving ideas.
Edit: Oh, and another idea - since we can name shop bins, we can name the mannequins too! Like:
PRICE NAME
And be able to specify things like: A breezy summer outfit, or something.

A Hallifax-esque sphere that allows you to use the LIBRARY syntax anywhere.
Lendren2010-04-05 17:57:01
How would it know what library and annex you were intending?
Xiel2010-04-09 23:43:40
Oh, idea - now that we have shop logs, for those who purchase the Merchant's Ledger artifact: a new syntax to SHOPLOG so that they can not only keep track of prices easily, but the history of the shopping being done there as well. Could limit the ability to check as only being able to peek into villages under your org's influence too!
Also, slight bump for the mannequin.

I don't really understand what you're asking for. A list of who's buying what commodities from the village comm shops?
Xiel2010-04-10 00:03:19
Yus. Helps me keep track of who buys where and for how much!
Lawliet2010-04-10 02:10:55
That'd be better as a, say, minister of trade ability, and only extend to the villages under their cities/communes control.
Would certainly make more sense.
