Is it cause of how now we know for sure that unicorns don't exist? That made me sad too.
Joking aside, it is a ridiculous commentary on our country's legal and copyright systems, but hey... embrace the funny! Cause there's plenty of it. I mean those lawyers were either diabolically stupid (as indicated by the fact that there was actually a long awkward pause to be mentioned when they were told the product didn't really exist) or diabolically smart (as indicated by the fact that they BILLED a twelve page cease and desist order - with all the time, resources and fees that entails - to their client for what they had to know was a fake product!)
Either way, it's hilarious.
Not to mention everything else funny in it.

Diabolically stupid. As thinkgeek pointed out, Parody is protected. If I wanted to, I could go out and make a comic about Superman and Batman and use them in the actual comic, as long as it was a parody.

Ah, but maybe they knew that and, instead of arguing with their client, they said, "It's dumb, but hey... spend 50 hours on it and draft up the biggest C&D you can. Bill em for every minute."
That's pretty diabolically smart, if you think about it.
But, like I said, it's funny either way.
