1. The most interesting thing about Twilight is that there were 30+ year old women fawning over a 17-year-old boy. You have to wonder what their reaction to a 30+ year old man fawning over a 17-year-old girl would be.
2. Man, I was so stoked about seeing TLA, too, but everyone everywhere proclaims it a piece of crap. What if you immensely enjoyed the series? Is it still complete crap?

From everything I've heard, it's worse if you enjoyed the series.

No, not really. I think what upset me the most was that some of the characters just... aren't the characters. Ang is not a spazzy goofball in the movie, he's just a very nervous, constantly worried little kid.

So, they took out the humor and played everything straight? That would be great if done skillfully.

All of my friends who watched the show loathed the movie.

Man I recently started watching the series and fell in love. I was really looking forward and excited about seeing the film. I'm glad I saw this thread first though =(

I DO immensely enjoy the series! That's part of what MADE the movie crap!

I never saw the series. Watched half an episode on a roadtrip one time when my friend plugged it in to her SUV's entertainment system to make her kids shutup.
So, I didn't have any fangirl expectations. Which, I guess, is why I liked the movie? Cause I did. I thought it was cool.

That was my fiancé's reaction. I think you two are just easy to please. But he and I watched the first 7 or so eps of Avatar now, and within the first half of the first episode, he went, "WOW, that movie was BAD!" I loled.

The Last Airbender had good special effects, and nothing else.
The story progression was, by far, the worst of all. Imagine a WWII movie. Imagine that they tried to cover the entire drama of the war, rather than some personal snapshots. Now imagine that they tried to do it in 90 minutes. The story would go something like this:
Germany invades Poland. Cue entrance of angry world leaders who you don't really know declaring war. Cut to tank scene. See cameo appearance by nameless Jew being led off in handcuffs (but you don't see him again). Introduce Japan, who apparently has been fighting in war this whole time, bombing...some island somewhere. Big, flashy, awesome 'splosions. Still not sure who they're bombing. Oh, look, that's Pearl Harbor. I've heard of that place! Aaaand...holy crap, what's the US doing in Europe now? I thought they were fighting Japan. Epic CGI battle scene. Cue Hitler's first on-screen appearance. Cue Hitler's suicide. WTF? CGI plane flying over picturesque mountain. Boom. Cue random Japanese guy in robes shouting that he'll fight on. Oh, an extra called him Hirohito. Ok, that makes sense. Boom. CGI animation of a city being leveled in a fireball. Credits.
Sub some names, and you have The Last Airbender.

It's people like you that convince investors to keep giving that man money to produce what is the equivalent of war crimes in cinema. For shame, Noola. For shame.

Don't scold Noola! She just loves everything! She can't help herself!

These days, I take it for granted that a given film or television show is going to be bad. If I encounter strong evidence that something's actually good, only then will I consider going out of my way to watch it.
Case in point: I'm watching the first season of True Blood now, but only because my sister and her boyfriend physically pressed the DVD set into my hands yesterday. That was after months of friends (including online friends) and various relatives trying to convince me that the series is worth watching.

I liked Shammy's first few films, but that's because their premises intrigued me. I even liked The Village for it's look into the human psyche. But yeah, lately, it's just been crap movie after crap movie.
Anywho, dead man at Twilight...

Any movie opening on the same weekend as Twilight is doomed to failure. Even fabulous movies like Bolt.
That is why I hate Twilight.
EDIT: Twilight kills (audience members and superdogs)

Last thought on Airbender: I'm a huge fan of the series and I only watch series or book based movies with very low expectations. With that said, I thought the movie was going to be terrible, but Shyamalan managed to completely exceed my expectation with how horrible the movie was.

I am a huge fan of Avatar: the Last Airbender (it seems endemic within the MUDding population, who knew? Probably because it's just so jaw-droppingly, drool-worthily good) and as such anticipated that the movie would be terrible and did not see it. I am now sleeping happily, because the trailers for the movie and the toys they gave out at McDonalds inspired my nine-year-old sister to want to see it for the first time and we just watched the first five episodes on On Demand just now together and she loves them! Zomg I remember the first episodes. So sweet.
