Looking to find a "Connection"

Ok, so, I'm looking for a bit of help.

I recently returned to playing and was really excited about everything. I was so gung-ho that I even purchased an Elite Membership.

However, as I've continued playing and trying to find the right spot for myself, I've found that I'm just not finding it.

CT and GT are deserted in all the cities/guilds I've tired, and most people are busy doing their things, such as bashing/influencing/aetherhunting/chatting on clans. This leaves the chance to find people to RP with very very difficult.

And I'm getting to the point where I'm about to give up, because I've discovered that I really have the most fun when I've got people to interact with. I can only bash for so long without human contact beyond "Greetings!" and "Fare well!".

So, that's why I decided to come here and see if I could find some people who I might mesh well with and in whom I could find what I need to keep playing!

A guild that is particularly family like, or an actual family, or just a close-knit clan, or just about anything else. I'm just looking for someplace I can go where I can have people to talk to and interact with ICly.

Hell, at this point I'm willing to go Guildless and just Influence/Aetherhunt, since the whole "You need to be in a guild to really have interactions with people" thing that used to be the case is totally not anymore--at least from my experience in being back.

I'm the creative sort--I love designing and I'm really interested in getting into messing with plays and the library system. So, if there is a family/clan/group that has a nice collection of people like that, then that's all the better. RP is really important. An affectionate environment is a plus, but not over-the-top silliness. I'm not interested in being glomped and slobbered on in public. tongue.gif

Basically, I'm just looking for a place where I can feel like I belong and where I don't feel like I'm essentially playing a single-player RPG, which is what it has felt like for me the past couple weeks.

Hmm, I find Serenwilde to have some interesting RP at times. Glomdoring too if you like dark. Celest is good depending on the type...Paladins are all about valor and you have to respect rank. Tahtetso is a good one. They are somewhat close and the main family seems to be Ama'nar'isil. Then there is the Celestine's. They are bit inactive, but you can get into the religious stance. Or my favorite....Aquamancers! We don't really seem to RP, but I like RPing with others as the passive aggressive magi. I found the element of water suits me. Clans....Talnara is a good family one that is very talkative..Well, Rika! Umm, there are a few cool Elitists families. La'saet in Celest is old an high society. Ysav'rai is a good Glom one that is really cool. D'Murani is a neat Mag family, but there are families EVERYWHERE. Some cool ones popping up.

Yeah, sure, I can set up a meld, if that's what you want. If you say so, then it must be the best idea. Let me get right on that for you. What? I should focus on hindering? Well, you're such the expert on group combat, that should definitely be what I spend my time doing. Do you have any ideas on how I should be holding my arms? Seems like you'd have an opinion on that. Ok, let's go. I guess.
Everiine2010-07-15 04:01:32
Shameless plug, because I really haven't played anywhere else-- Serenguard tries to have as much of a family feel as possible. The idea is that they are a warrior tribe, so instead of setting up strict hierarchies and ranks like city soldiers, they work together as blood kin.

laugh.gif That just made me think of all the snarky things the units say in Starcraft when you repeatedly click on them.

Honestly, if you weren't so aegist, I totally would have made a Trill to hook up with Everiine.

But alas. tongue.gif

As for the specific guilds, I think I've lost hope in finding what I need in any particular guild. I get the feeling its much more likely that I'll find it in a Family or a Clan or just a group of friends. But maybe.

Oh I'm sorry, was I supposed to be doing something? I mean, I just figured since you were telling me what to do you would just make sure to tell me to do it, so I didn't do it at the wrong time. Sir.

Illuminati have been pretty warm and open with people (okay, not open - secrets and all that), not sure I can say the same for Gaudiguch.

Aside from that, you can head to the Marketplace forum section and check out the 'looking for kids' thread.

I've looked, but people just saying "I want kids for Talnara/Kalas Greathouse!" doesn't really tell much. And being "just another Kalas" isn't much better than being "Just another Seren" I'd imagine.

Thank you for posting this thread. It helps to validate a whole bunch of long-winded stuff I posted earlier today. Also, I'm glad you're making an effort to find what you want, rather than just leaving the game.

I appreciate your goals, and share many of them myself. In a sense, I'm in the same position you are — it's just not bothering me that much at the moment, because being a hermit while I fiddle with my client (for example) doesn't bother me overly much. If you message Felicia in-game, I'll get in touch in you when I'm awake. Then we can chat, bounce ideas off each other, see what happens. I too love designing things, writing stories (won the Wyrden Fable contest, /preen), and writing plays.

I have a number of far more experienced friends I can contact as well to find out what's out there, if this thread doesn't turn up anything substantial.

Come2Halli. You can hang out by the Matrix with the rest of the Skyplumes rolleyes.gif
Rika2010-07-15 04:29:49
But the Talnaras are awesome. Our FT is more active than Hallifax and Sentinel CT/GT put together.

I think a good idea is to be shameless and just throw yourself at random people in your org, in person. By throw yourself I don't necessarily mean snuggle, I just mean initiating the conversation/RP rather than hoping someone will talk to you.

This. It works.

If you keep to yourself, for some reason you'll never get any good interaction.

This~

I have to say, the Illuminati have had the most active GT I've ever seen, though I've only been in Serenguard and Shofangi before this. For the most part, the Gaudiguch CT is dead, except for the occasional "Hey city." and "I need a volunteer to die for a good cause!" I take the blame for that one. But our GT is rather active and playful, and our group meetings when we have them are pretty fun too. Not to mention that our GM is really vocal and friendly, and practically begs for people to joke around and tease her.

Serenwilde as a whole is pretty friendly, and that's even if you're not a snuggler (because there are plenty of people willing to snuggle you especially if you're not into it).

... And I'm a Talnara.
Our FT is seriously rockin' it.

I'll take any criticism for being too biased. :x

A fair point, but it should work both ways, don't you think? If almost everyone else is keeping to themselves (and surely they are, at least for the sake of argument; otherwise, the above advice wouldn't even be necessary), new players are going to pick up on that atmosphere. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, et cetera.

I could as easily say this (I'm using "you" in the general sense, Rika): If you're an experienced player, and you meet an org mate you've never seen before or don't know particularly well, don't blow past them on your super-important experienced person errands just because they don't initiate conversation with you. Make a special effort to engage them; feel free to abort the effort if they're dullards or don't respond well, but at least try.

If anything, veterans have far more of an obligation to reach out. You have all the talking points, all the wisdom, and a firm grasp of game lore. New players tend to have very little of those three things.

Hm.

If you end up in Halli, talk to me about the Shavatt family. It's fairly small at present, but close-knit, and growing, and most of us are writers or designers, or both. We're friendly within the family, but not overly so, and RP is very important to us too. Drop me a PM if you want to discuss it.

Hallifax is evil, don't go there. They have a horrible patron that stalks people.

It's true. And if you come to Celest, you'll be bombarded with bright lights from one god and hugs and songs from another. And then there's Terentia. I think that says it all. ninja.gif
