Arguing that Serenwilde has no discipline at all either is folly. I've seen people with the titles of Cutemancer and Pondermancer. Really.
And Rainbowmancer :shudder:
And Bleedomancer, but I think that person should have been in Glom anyway.

And, for every one of those, I could find a person that wouldn't join Glomdoring because of how violent everyone is there.
Glom isn't always violent, they just take themselves seriously. You know, something Serenwilde should do.

Evidently, you missed my use of a facetious over-generalization as a sarcastic retort.
Everiine2010-07-19 16:39:06
Take a look at the people who are making snuggly asses of themselves in Serenwilde. The VAST majority of them are noobs who think "oooo, good forest, snuggly cuddly cuuuuuuute!!"
Are they guild leaders? No*.
Are they ministers? No*.
Are they major combatants? No*.
*there are exceptions of course
Guess how many them of them stick around for longer than a couple months? They are the underbelly of Serenwilde that the upper players try to reign in, but we have the same problem as Gaudiguch-- the "why shouldn't I be allowed to?" mentality. Because of one our laws prohibits killing each other even when someone is being stupid, we don't have the same motivators as Glomdoring and Magnagora to "shape up". It is REALLY difficult getting people to act appropriately when they come in with these ridiculous preconceptions anyway.

Sounds like your laws need an overhaul. Nature can be vicious at times.

The whole " Mancer" thing was just fail
But I do agree that Serenwilde needs to be tougher on things like that

I'm really tempted sometimes to just toadcurse some bitches. It's not killing them, and short of throwing me out of the commune there isn't much that can actually be done to a guildmaster.

I agree with Shaddus. Change Serenwilde's laws to allow Seren's to kill one another for disrespect and such. That will whip Serenwilde into shape. Just look at Glomdoring and Magnagora.

I don't think the killing law will change, and neither should it-- it's something that definitely separates us out. But there are... other ways to deal with people that should be explored

Those laws have also been the direct cause of an abundance of quite miserable behaviour over the years. "Just look at Glomdoring and Magnagora" would have been pretty damning a couple years ago.
As evidenced by the fact you totally ignored my earlier post pointing out how things actually are, though, you're not really the target audience anyway.
EDIT: Agreed with Everiine for a change! And for the record I'm not defending those titles, which made me cringe.

Actually there are a lot of actions that can be taken against a guildmaster without kicking him out of the commune, not in the least putting pressure on the guild to outs him.

Has this ever been done? I kind of wanted to try it for some really bad guild leaders a while ago but it mainly seemed like it would have the effect of causing the guild to rally around the fail leader in defence of their guild's right not to be interfered with by the Commune (if you looked you could see evidence of that starting) so it never got pursued. I might just think THAT'S a Seren thing but I don't really hear it happening often in other orgs, except in that huge drama purge Celest had a while ago.

Seems like Everiine was enemied to Moon for some time, and can't people be executed by that one chick?
Everiine2010-07-19 17:10:13
Yep, I was executed (twice, technically) by Bandrui, enemied to Moon, Hart, Hartstone, Moondancers, and Lisaera all at once.

I know Celest ignored 'lesser' guild leaders for a while (bards and monks while they were not populated). This can be done by simply not aiding them to anything and not inviting them to meetings and clans.
The rallying really depends how far you are willing to go. I believe the aquamancers where once considered outcasts of Celest because of Mistie or some such (I was not around back then so it is all second hand knowledge)
You have to know how many people support him really, it is entirely possible that a well populated guild would remove a bad guildmaster by just influencing key members. Less populated guilds may be considered largely irrelevant and you can really go to work on them in terms of screwing them over.
If however a large guild supports him you have to consider the fact that you either change the law or kick him out.

Guildmasters get aided to things? Must be nice.
It's not like I'd go berserk and slaughter people. But it's going to be hard to say "You just toadcursed someone making out at the nexus who rudely refused people asking them politely to move somewhere else, we're going to shun you and your guild and make your life hell." I break rules all the time, but people tend not to notice if I'm just following common sense instead.
Unknown2010-07-19 17:22:07
Maybe I'm just blind or stupid, but what exactly is the problem? If people are touting that the issue is not Glomdoring, but Serenwilde itself, but cannot extend past a nebulous "Seren is too snuggly, Seren hasn't been Seren", there's little you can do. Seren's been accused of being too snuggly since the get-go (and it certainly wasn't stopping them once upon a time), and Seren not being Seren is even more ambiguous.
It feels like people can't put their finger on just what the issue is, or simply don't want to.

Aubrey2010-07-19 17:26:04
The leadership does condone it though. For example, one time a few months ago, Greean was standing at Mother, holding the corpse of an enemy who had died attacking the forest. A couple of higher-ups (I don't remember exactly who) were asking him to hand it over so they could offer it. He flat out refused. In typical Greean fashion, he stomped his foot (literally) and said "no!" In any other decent org, he would've been smacked across the face and forced to hand it over. It's not like we don't have pookas. Instead, people just shrugged. Greean has said and done the most outrageous, disrespectful, downright stupid things, and never once been disfavoured or even threatened with a disfavour.
When Daj went and joined a raid against a city Serenwilde was on precarious terms with already, after direct orders not to do so, it took a good three day debate among the council before deciding to give him a couple disfavours. He didn't even drop a rank. And that was the most stern I've ever seen from Serenwilde.
Any time Aubrey has tried to lay down some discipline or common sense, people whine that she's too strict, and since she's only a GA, not a Minister or Council member, there's really not a lot she can do, especially since it's usually outside her guild/jurisdiction. The Council just ignores her and the little brats just laugh and continue their idiocy. This is a big reason I rarely play her anymore. What's the point? She's not going to make a difference, when 99% of Serens like things the way they are. She can't up and leave like others have done, so she's just not engaged in things anymore.

Power and influence have never come from a title.
