This is just an idea that came across to me when I was going through the designs... Probably has been brought up before but..
I think it would be a brilliant idea to section off certain things, for instance Accessories is a pile of everything from gloves to scarfs to masks and backpacks! Can it not be split into their sections or grouper together:
TAILORING ACCESSORIES
*BACKPACKS*
...
...
*GLOVES*
...
...
*MASKS*
...
...
And so on...
And for Shoes, being split into shoes, boots, sandals etc. Coats into Coats and Cloaks and Capes. Things like this!
I don't whether it's possible, or if my sleepy mind is being completely ridiculous, I thought I'd put it out there.
EDIT: I realized that this isn't probably that good of an idea, it would take so much work to set them out differently, it took me a fair few hours to do it for myself in a word document. :/

assuming they're cloak### coat### cape###, then hitting the sort by alphabetical order should group 'em together quickly in Word. It would be nice in-game too.

I never knew this. I sat there painfully for several hours going through the lists of designs, copying and pasting them into right sections... damn.

Ouch. Well. It has to be the first thing in the entry or Word won't do it right. So still lots of copy-paste work. Excel might be a little neater.

Tailoring accessories backpack will display only the backpacks. You can already order the system to only show a certain pattern in the system. Unless you mean you want to see everything, but see it as all backpacks, then all satchels, etc.
Personally I'd like to be able to search the appearance list by keyword.

Maybe I'm not understanding. Are you wanting to do something like TAILORING ACCESSORIES BACKPACK to only view backpacks? Because if it doesn't already work like that, you should bug it. FORGING MASTERWEAPONS KATANA works like that, and so on.

Right, I never knew that either.
But what I was getting at, instead of having all jumbled together and to make it easy-reading is to have the things grouped together.

Oh. Yeah, that would be awesome, but the design numbers are in order.

I suppose... but! You could put them into their groups, and then sort them by number

I rather like it how it is, as I can just scan to the bottom for the newest designs. You can already use TAILORING (category) (type) to get the kind of sorting you're looking for.

And if you simply -must- have them in one list sorted by type, you can make a quick alias to do this for you, by sending all the TAILORING (category) (type) in a row.
