I find it hilarious that those with the most essence (minus a small expenditure from Lendren) are not spending a penny's worth on any of the powers, nor plan to anytime soon. laugh.gif

This is one of those moments where a :cling: emote would be most appropriate.
Esano2010-08-11 02:19:37
I would like to say that I, quite honestly, would have no problems with all demigods having access to all the ascendance-only powers. The weights are so high as to be prohibitive anyway.
Xenthos2010-08-11 02:47:49
Note to readers who do not like bitter: Do not read the spoiler text.

When I get descended I'll likely just buy Aegis, DF, and a third tradeskill and call it a day. Three whole skills, two of which I already had. Whoopee.

The biggest problem here is that there is so much stuff (for Ascendants at the moment, for Demigods in the future), and you cannot buy much of it. You're stuck forever window shopping (with the occasional rental), clutching your small pile of purchases to your chest and hoping that they are not torn out of your grasp, too. And, while that may be fun for a time, it will quickly lose its attraction.

(Bitter? Me? Never!)

(Also, there's no way I'm buying anything until this crappy VA situation is sorted out)
Razenth2010-08-11 03:06:24
Why would they descend you? Shuyin and Viynain don't count against your caps, and you guys can prob maintain 2 or 3, right? You've been in Glom since forever and you're pretty much always active.

PS: I think Xenthos's bitterness is completely justified and hits the issue that most of the Demigods have with the system. It's not, "There isn't enough stuff for Demigods (and specifically Demigods) to play with." It's "80 out of a 100 of us can't even afford half of this stuff."
Unknown2010-08-11 03:18:15
Yeah, Xenthos' complaint is what I've been stressing. People like the choices, its just that almost all of them are locked away in a case when they shouldn't be.
Sidd2010-08-11 03:34:13
I think people need to take a deep breathe, step back and look at the potential of what's being offered.

It's censor.gif huge, so many things can be added pretty simply to make everyone's game a bit more enjoyable

this being said, I understand current frustrations with prices etc. They are pretty huge costs so hopefully that can be scaled back, and I can definitely support demi's getting more cool things

I'm also ok with the 50/75/100 weight thing

but really, I think overall, this is well done and can be an absolutely amazing thing, just need some patience

Problem being that the weighting is so prohibitive that it makes almost nobody's game enjoyable, and then stack that onto stripping Ascendant from people and you get me being bitter.

I did take a step back. It's even a whole 'nother day and it's still not looking all that sun-shiney. Maybe if we could actually buy a few things, but... just looking at the costs and limitations has me feeling overwhelmed. Still.

Edit: I imagine if you look at my posts you'll see that I've actually descended to this point over time. I started out pretty excited. And when a system has this much potential and yet ends up with this effect... I don't know. You're right that it has so much potential, it just doesn't deliver at this point.
Shamarah2010-08-11 03:44:32
So they took away some of your demigod powers? I say: good! Demigods had too many advantages anyway considering all you did to get there was afk in an aethership for hours on end. The only reason I never got demigod is that I have better things to do with my time.

My initial reaction to this post is to throw a few curses at you, considering that this is untrue for a lot of people, and that there's more than just a bit of sour grapes leading to "Haha" in this quoted statement.

Which I suppose indicates how badly I need to get away from this thread again for a while.

Eventru's response to this when I made this same point a few hours ago was that I just won't enjoy the system. confused.gif

I understand this, and as I said, there can definitely needs to be adjustments to the system, but still, if it's done right, it can be awesome

I am also bitter about stripping, forced skillset forgetting with no essence reimbursment (reimburse please), you know this, we've talked about it, but really, :censor: happens, and we can look at it two ways, and I'm choosing to see the potential ( and I hope the admin also choose and believe this and take appropiate steps, I think listening to the general opinion in this thread would be a good start).
Unknown2010-08-11 03:56:49
One more time for fun! Cool system. Broken numbers. We can't base things on Aetherbashing because its an exception to the rule. Fix that and I think everyone will be a happy as... something that is very happy.
Sylphas2010-08-11 03:58:26
Speaking as someone at level 95 who was eying demi for a while, this change makes it absolutely certain that I will never bother to get those last five levels. Unless there is a fundamental change in the admin's attitude toward this, I don't see weights ever becoming more lenient. Unless maximum possible essence gains are nerfed, I don't see costs ever coming down. I wanted demigod as a way to go bashing if I wanted some essence to play with some neat things, not as the key to even more intense bashing just to buy anything that's worth a damn. The mindset that you should have to grind for hours and hour and hours to have some fun is ludicrous. There is only so much time in the day, and I'd rather be talking to people and designing things and not feel like by doing other things I'm screwing myself. I guess I should just afk on an aetherhunt and do them there.

Saying that new powers can be added is totally missing the point. What needs to be said to make people happy is "when we priced these powers and set the weights we were totally off the mark." Adding new powers that no one can afford is worthless. And as has been said, it's not the easiest thing to come up with feasible powers, and you already took 27 of them totally off the market for the vast majority of the population by giving them to ascendants.

Othero's got the idea, woo
Unknown2010-08-11 04:08:27
And just so you know Sidd, I do think the flipside of it is that if costs don't change the admins are going back on the whole idea that Aetherbashing is something extra, that it has an extra reward because you need a group, coordination, and large pockets of time, to what we are now basing all experience and essence gain on. They're also doing the equivalent of waving a five course meal in the face of a starving man. A bunch of shines that mostly won't get touched.

Since so many posts have popped up over the course of the day, I think it's important to point out that this topic still exists, and about the only reason it might not be getting more posts is because everyone finds it to be so agreeable and simply can't complain there. ninja.gif
Razenth2010-08-11 04:16:10
What do we need to do, bump it?
Unknown2010-08-11 04:31:01
I'm not the most bitter person out there! Of course, this is only because I've had four-odd months of waiting for this truck to hit. Assuming the worst is nice like that. If you don't get run over, you were wrong, and pleasantly surprised. If you do get run over, you can cough up your dying breath with the hollow validation of being right.

There's too much Special Little Snowflake (SLS) Syndrome going on. Symptoms of SLS include a tiny statistical tail of the population enjoying a grossly disproportionate benefit, disheartening resignation to being crushed by "the system", increased levels of bitterness, quiet weeping, misdirected blame, envy of the special snowflakes, and increased clarity of hindsight.

More honestly though, this is one of those things that, the lesson is, for the admin, talk to your players at large, not just a few of us forum monkies, when making a momentous change. For the players, its "pay the feck attention", because seriously, we started talking about this in like, April. And a lot of these concerns were forseeable.

I can't imagine how frustrating it is for our admin. While I've never been on board with this thing, I know our creatrix and her minions must have spent hours and hours on it. As much as I have my own issues with things, its hard for me to get too angsty when I remember that, and think about how I'd feel.

Somewhere in all this, things got disconnected communication wise.

Personally, I prefer egalitarian solutions to this sort of thing. I would give everyone the same weight cap, open up all the neat stuff to the masses, and find a way to make Ascendants "special" without making Jane and Joe Lusternia feel like they're looking at a much desired carrot on the other side of reinforced plexiglass. But that's probably a little more absolute than what is really sought after here by the folks with the vision.

Which would be really bad.

The costs need to be scaled down slightly to match regular essence work, not afk essence 'work'. Implement Shuyin's suggestions, too, have the week of free switching for experimentation, open up some of the options to Demigods. We also need to look at Titans not being so shafted.
