How would they be better off? It's only as demis they get the extra powers... As far as I understood it, they'd only keep the "vernal" part of the race, not any powers associated with it.
Hrm, don't remember reading anything either way. We shall see.
Esano2010-07-26 04:41:05
Alternatively, new Vernals will have their old level recorded, but current ones will be grandfathered - 90% certain they explicitly stated in the other thread they don't have records of what level current Vernals were before ascending.

This has been discussed. It may or may not be that way in the final product (I don't know).
And I think the final decision was 500k for stripping, with a base raise cost of 2m for 1st, 2m for 2nd, 4m for 3rd, etc.

Why did the bolded part change? As others have said, it's always been 1 mil for the first before.

Making more expensive to drain all our power, make lusty explode or something
Unknown2010-07-26 06:01:48
Actually, upon thinking about it some more, why am I just getting 40 mil of the x (120 mil iirc) I spent learning ascendance to begin with?
Shouldn't I get all of it back so I am able to pick and choose what to spend it on? Whenever skills got deleted or completely changed, usually, the admin refunded back all of the lessons spent learning it, so why are we only getting 1/3 of it?
I can understand stripping VA's and getting only partial power, but why are we only getting partial essence back from ascendance?

This
Again, this sin't like a player said "oh I want to learn something else instead so I am going to forget ascendance and use the remaining lessons in anther skillset" this is the admin saying "we are taking this skillset away from you. Have fun bashing back all that essence you bashed once already." (and for some just getting as far as they did in ascendance was a chore to do)
Felicia2010-07-26 06:06:23
That doesn't make much sense to me either.
If Vernal Ascendant X remains a Vernal Ascendant after all the changes go through and stripping is complete, or in the case of True Ascendants, why should he or she lose any essence? Simply because the system is being changed? That seems odd.

If an essence shop is some part of the new system, maybe they don't want people starting out with a level of funds that renders any charges irrelevant. Pure speculation there though.

Yeah, but they worked to acquire all of that essence.
To draw an analogy, to me that would be like opening a new denizen shop that sells unique mundane items, but then slashing everyone's gold sovereign savings by 2/3.
Unknown2010-07-26 06:23:07
Would 'ex-Vernals' lose their 'ex-Vernal status' if they left their organisation? It wouldn't make sense if they did since they were stripped of their powers.
Everyone should quickly ninja in Ascendants so they get ex-Ascendants for 500k power.

I'll echo the above.

This is literally a parallel situation (referring to the essence refund from ascendance). While others may say we got to use the ascendant abilities, Eventru has stated that most if not all have come back in some form or another and we just have to spend essence to re-learn it. So why aren't we getting our essence back to relearn it?
Time is money for those who will bring up that it's essence over lessons/credits

Two changes today...
Firstly, the Magic skillset is gone. Everything it did will now be done
by learning the High Magic or Low Magic skillsets, in addition to
everything else they've always done. If you had lessons invested in it
then you have received a full refund in your general lessons bucket, not
the lesson pool, so there won't be a penalty for using the lessons
anywhere else you want.

Exactly.
As 'easy' as it is to get xp as everyone says, losing 100+ million essence is nothing to scoff at, heh.
P.S. To be more constructive, if you guys aren't willing to give us all our essence back, I'd also be fine with getting a heavy discount on purchasing things from the essence shop, if that's the way we're rolling.

Don't forget the 10M from cults. Having that back would be nice too, especially if we have to pay again to remake them...
Krellan2010-07-26 06:41:40
just saying at best, you get about 1 million essence per hour on any given non xp day. so you put that hour into $ or even lusternia jobs like guiding. and you'll see that 100 million essence in time is like guiding for 400-500 credits

Ah. Well, demigods will have access to some neat stuff. I think Lendren will be happy with at least some of it. To be quite honest, "endgame PvPers" probably won't be very happy (as demigods over all will not be as strong as they were, or not for extended periods of time anyways), whereas those who want roleplay buffs and the like will be pretty happy, I think. There's just a lot they can play with and customize within reason. We tried to give a lot of variety.
And like I said, we'll be happy to consider new ideas and suggestions - it was pretty lacklustre last time around, if I remember correctly, but who knows about the next bout of ideas! The system was designed so we can add more as time and ideas allow, while not really unbalancing demigods. So hurrah for foresight?

Everyone who is complaining about the amount of essence that was refunded should keep in mind that we do not know how much any of the individual abilities will cost. For all we know, the 40m essence you were refunded could buy the same things that you got by spending 120m essence on Ascendance, resulting in an equivalent trade.
Furien2010-07-26 07:51:26
But either way they still lost 80 million essence, no matter how you look at it.

While this may be true, new ascendants will not have to pay that much essence and therefore the current ascendants do have a point.
On the other hand lessons can be bought with credits bought by RL money. Which is why I imagine they gave a full refund for removal of normal skills. While essence can only be obtained by playing the game. Not saying this makes it right or wrong just a possible reasoning.
Xiel2010-07-26 07:56:07
I disagree with the speculation that it 'could be' that 40mil will be equivalent to whatever 120mil will be able to buy. I'd still want the complete refund for my effort to gain that much to transcend Ascendance in the first place even if I wouldn't be needing it. Especially since I worked towards getting that as a caster pre-Aethercraft. With Krellan's parallel to the Low/High and Magic change as well, I don't see why the return is cut down to 1/3 of the initial investment.
