I just got Nettle to ride around on my mammoth ass.

Still playing, I obsessively make new characters but I use a gift card to buy the game cards so not really paying for it right now and it's a good way to keep in touch with my boyfriend in Europe.

Arcane makes me sad. Entire missile barrage where each tick crits for 7k? Disgusting.
Ardmore2010-07-27 00:32:15
Man, I want to play again but I'm too competitive. It will consume my life again.
Noola2010-07-27 00:34:55
I have never felt the urge to play this game. Cause, you gotta buy the software and you gotta pay a monthly fee. And that just seems like a little too much mandatory paying for my tastes.

Hey it was really fun for the first few years, but after the second expansion came out and you realized, "Hey... they really haven't added anything new to the game..." you start to lose interest. Then when they start catering to idiots, you lose a little more interest... and I stopped playing about eight months ago, since playing from launch. It was fun...when it launched, because it was just such a new experience for me.

I lost interest (in 2007, after playing four or five months) when I realized the game works this way:
- reach level cap
- spend six months raiding for "epics"
- expansion comes out
- previous "epics" are now useless garbage
- reach new level cap
- spend six months raiding for new "epics"
- repeat ad infinitum

Don't ask me why, but I could out-do any gold farmer. I love to farm. I can do it forever.

If you're going to raid, do it for the fun of it, otherwise it's just work.

Well, yes, I completely agree. That's exactly why I lost interest and stopped playing. I'd need to force myself to see the fun in it, because it's famously time-consuming, you end up repeating the same content many times until the RNG lottery spits out all the gear everyone needs, and oftentimes you may be required to associate with players you dislike (though not necessarily, if you're lucky enough to be in a guild that's both raid-competent and a circle of close friends).
Sounds a whole lot like real-life work to me! Time-consuming (often on a schedule), somewhat repetitive, you may be forced to interact with people you dislike....
I know some people enjoy it. I've been around the block myself. I played Final Fantasy XI for a while, including the endgame, so I know how it is. That may be why I didn't want to do it in WoW: I'd already done it before, and once was enough.

I tried FFXI after WoW. I spend about half an hour trying not to loathe the interface, then gave up and pinned my hopes on FFXIV. Then realized it's just an updated FFXI and felt my hopes come crashing down again.

Well, it's a decidedly old-school MMORPG with a unique interface that doesn't follow the conventions (particularly Western conventions) we've gotten used to these past seven or eight years.
I didn't mind the interface, but then I started playing when it was released in the U.S. and it was my first graphical MMORPG, so I was very excited and I had no expectations.

I'll play it when it's designed to be played on a computer and not a console.

That's a big reason why I can't get into other MMOs after playing WoW for so long. I'm so used to WoW's interface that anything else just confuses or annoys me.
It also doesn't help that I don't know anyone in any other game I've tried, and most games just lack the substance that WoW has. Aion, for example, is EXTREMELY pretty. It has very little to the game itself though. I suppose you could call it shallow or superficial. WoW may not have the prettiness that Aion has, but there's just so much more there.

I love Eve. I love WoW too. They're totally different games, but both have their merits.

GW design philosophy ftw

Can't wait til Cataclysm. That is all.

Warhammer Online has been my favourite MMO so far, but there are just too many imbalances and gimped classes. I eagerly look forward to the Warhammer 40k MMO that's supposed to be released in a few years.
