And honestly, is it worth holding on to them? There is a significant difference between harrassing someone because you don't like them and driving them off, and having someone leave because you "dared" to interfere with their, quite frankly, bad behavior.
To your first question, it isn't. But I'm taking the Glomdoring situation, and subsequent ultimatum, as an example in thinking that the approach should be closer to "show them the way" than "hack off the dead branches".

I can't even pay good people who would help the city grow stronger to join, and I have tried.
We're on the wrong side of the power gulf.
Our mage skillset is crap (especially compared to aeros, which now have a better offense, and a free sweetfont demesne effect. I mean, some of this stuff is arithmatic- look at dysaberic pressure compared to cremate- both 5 power. Cremate costs 5 even if it fails, and gives you nothing if it does. DP, in a group, you just spam it. If it fails, no power and a cloudcoil gets added, 5 power if it kills the person. Good on aero, it needed some adjustments- but pyro was destroyed and left in the road. Need special report now, please. Or I can just stop frustrating myself and join a gravy-train org- BUT I DIGRESS).
And the lynch mob has been forming at the gates for other skills, while saying that the broken ones are just fine.
It was an uphill battle to begin with. This just kills it.
Gregori2010-08-05 04:38:06
Well I will admit that some of the people are more skillbent, but I like to think (well not really like to think it at all) that half the reason they don't want to join is because they don't want to be situated in an Org that has no self control and the leadership are just elected to make sure the bills get paid.

Lack of laws means, anyone can do anything they want. Up to and including killing citizens, which is considered a nono unless sanctioned by the guild (Templars have their potential security duke it out, Illuminati have something in regards to treasonous actions, Pyromancers are just sitting there going yo! *sets on fire*). The no killing people thing is something from the start of the city, which the admin controlled denizens have been quick to remind that hurting and maiming is fine, killing however is not!
you make me wanna be a pyromancer.

I realize I only alt in Gaudiguch, so I'm not there every day, but for the amount of Issues Gregori is apparently getting, you'd think I would have noticed him doing something god awful at some point. I have two different alts in that city and I've never seen him or any of the other leaders do anything crazy or bad or anything.
Just what exactly is it that is making Kalin the Hitler of Gaudiguch?

We do need them. Poor little Pyro's. Their yo-ing and fire setting is at an all time low.

Enforcing order so the people don't run amok and destroy the city. That's a criminal offense.

No more Illuminati, though. Make some Pyros and Templars.
Seriously, we're set.
Seriously, we're set.

Hey I haven't actually linked a manse before and I didn't know that it would of costed that much. Yeah I should of looked into it and as usually my response to the current leadership who I already know is out to get me wouldn't have had been nice or at least any nicer. Perhaps if I reacted a bit better things wouldn't have had turned out this way but you have to realize that I have an aggressive personality and it takes a few extra moments for me to either calm down or let you know how I feel without the anger or swearing. Hey I never had any problems what soever in Celest with paying power back and in fact I actually had a great time there but I can't quite think of the reason why oh... maybe leadership. I know in the end no matter what I say you won't change your mind so that is why I have decided to move to Hallifax.
Sorry Raezon didn't see your post when I did this one.

Anyways, to resume - guilds are evidently able to add their own laws within reason, and I guess that can be an acceptable restraint mechanism, but you'll still (likely) get people decrying 'this is Gaudiguch, city of Freedom!' if you try and mete out punishment on a guild level.
Scuchidira made this post back when Gaudiguch first opened up, and it had a section in it I've been thinking about lately:
I ended up googling 'Love is the Law; Love under Will' and it turned out to be an Aleister Crowley reference. It included a lot of other love-related things which actually made me start liking Gaudiguch a bit more (and made me check myself as to how dark the Illuminati could get), but ... I'm not sure how well it actually runs a city.

unenlightened).

See and while we try and base our few laws (seriously we have two) off that principle we get people who unlike you have never bothered to look it up and just run around foaming at the mouth that "Gaudiguch is supposed to be lawless and I can do whatever I want!"
Edit::

Also felt that needed a bolding. Gaudiguch is NOT lawless.

We, the citzenry of Gaudiguch, in order to stand against the bonds of tyranny, to shield ourselves from the sickness of anarchy, and to prevent our decent into the evils of human nature, hereby establish "RANDOM NAME OF GUIDELINES", so that true Freedom may reign over this, the city of Gaudiguch and its people and that we may bask within the fires of its glory.
Okay so I had "articles" and what not and it was all worded with lots of "Given these abilities through the will of the people" but I am sleep and cant finish it.
If the other leaders are not being issues as much as Kalin, then it may be how Kalin is perceived (Not saying right or wrong, good or bad, but perception is reality) If that is the case maybe the best course of action is for a new leader to be elected who would probably do the same things as Kalin but because its not Kalin wont get all the guff.....

Why should someone have to look up something OOC for something IC....

I don't think he meant it that way. I found an 'expansion' on that quote that I can't actually find in the source documents, so I'm not entirely sure what to say on it anymore.

I had a large post typed up, but you know what? It's not about the details. It's about overreaction. Kalin can overreact with the best of them, but there's a mob (or one or two individuals responsible for the increasing shrub population) who overreacts just as strongly. I don't know what the admin intervention is yet (and miiiiight just not log in today, kthx), but there's a real possibility that that's overreaction too.
So, no matter which side of this you're on, go find yourself some smooth reggae before logging into, posting about, or taking action with/against Gaudiguch, and take a moment to chill.
Cause every little thing...gonna be alright!

Lawless does not equal Freedom. I don't understand why people can't seem to grasp the knowledge that Freedom isn't technically free.
"Freedom is Slavery.
Ignorance is Bliss.
War is Peace."
There's more to the meaning of these simple words than appears. You are still bound to follow law, and order when you're free. Hallifax takes order and law to the extreme while Gaudi and to an extent Seren take the very loose approach. When society doesn't have laws to follow, to ensure peace, to make sure that things run smoothly, things and society break down. You stop being able to perform, being able to function and eventually you die off or get taken over. So I'd present that to everyone. Do you want this city to die out or be taken over by someone else (and I mean Mag or Celest or whatever, not another leader.)
And I agree with several other posts. Go to Kalikai, and get approval for the things you'd like to introduce to Gaudi. If she gives the green light, just give people the "but mommy said it was ok" line.
