Emotionlist Project

(if this thread is in the wrong section, moderator please feel free to move it)

So there are a huge number of emotes in Lusternia now - the first page of emotionlist is only 5% of the list for me (and I'm using a large pagewidth). This is something I wanted to try for a while but never had the time. I'd like to compile a list of every emote into a searchable database, and also categorize them into different groups like theme, mood, and/or humour. Lendren has generously agreed to allow this 'database' to be put on the wiki.

Anyway, if I were to do it myself I don't know how long it'd take or if it'd ever finish, so I'm hoping to have some other people help out too. We'd just divide the emotes amongst ourselves and go about recording how each looks and then what kind of categories they'd fall into. Any volunteers? smile.gif

I have a notepad file saved with all the ones I can do on Neos. I know it's missing all other racial emotes and org specific emotes. Don't have it on this computer, but I can get it to you first chance I get, though I don't have all the action lines, just the names.

I had a dump of all of them available to aquamancer aslaran in a thread somewhere. You're welcome to those as well, and it includes the first person for both targeted and untargeted versions of everything.

Interesting project. I had a look at the list a while back since I feel I keep falling back on the same emotes, but the sheer size and lack of oversight kinda put me off. Having a sorted database would be bliss.

I don't mind throwing a bunch into the right categories if help is still needed, but that means there have to be categories first. Which is the trickiest bit if you ask me. Would take a person with good knowledge to set up that structure, or at least some framework to start with.

Thanks! Aside from the contributions from the people in this thread, no volunteers have stepped up yet. I realize that to make the database complete, we will need 2 people - one to get 1st person messages and the other to collect 3rd person messages. Who knows, maybe we can get a coder to transform the database into a script that can be searched IG.

Hm, as for categories, I was thinking of very simple groupings e.g. under Mood there can be 'Content' 'Somber' 'Aggressive' 'Excited' and 'Loving'. The categories would have to be created prior to embarking on recording down the emotes... I'll take another look later on.

What I've always wanted is a small description for each emote, so there's no more awkward times when you think an emote does something appropriate, only it does not. Like tigger.

P.S. Crickets is the best emote.

Or when a targetted version of the same emote has a distinctly different tone from the untargetted. Like "purse".

Hahaha. I can totally see where that one would cause problems.
