Subj: Commodity System Revamp!

A new commodity system has been implemented for production and pricing
of commodities in villages. This change is mostly internal; you'll
(mostly) do the same things to buy and sell commodities (except as noted
below). Its purpose is to make us able to keep the commodity system
working, set things up more easily, and avoid some of the chronic bugs
that plagued the previous, ancient commodity system.

o You will note that prices and supplies will change to reflect the new
system, and we will be adjusting these as we see how it pans out. You
will also note that production and tithing are more gradual and more
accurately reflect changes in governance style.

o Villages no longer offer to buy commodities, only sell them. WARES no
longer shows a buy price. (Cities and communes can still both buy and
sell.)

o You will no longer be able to buy more than ten of any commodity at a
time from village commodity shops. This is to prevent avoiding the
increase in price resulting from demand by buying all at once.

o Ministers of Trade can set buy and sell prices of 0 to prevent a
commodity from being bought or sold.

NOTE: Now that supply and demand is more consistent, some prices may
look a little funky until the system works through current inventories
(i.e., extremely low or high inventories in relation to how much a
village produces may result in extremely cheap or expensive comms).

Penned by My hand on the 11th of Urlachmar, in the year 274 CE.

Most of the villages are presently 'dry' of desirably cheap commodities (cities/communes would sell for cheaper), save for a few instances of milk or vegetables being anywhere from 1 to 8 per.

The price 'cap' seems to be 1495, given the prices for gems I've walked past.

Buying 10 of a commodity appears to automatically bump the price up, though the two instances I've witnessed this doesn't give me enough information to tie it to the supply. I bought 10 vegetables, the price bumped up by 1 (so I was paying 80, then 90, then 100, then 110 before I stopped). On the other hand, Egran bought the same from a different store, and the price got bumped by 3 each time. Oh well, research to do!

I am very, very worried right now.

Yeah, pretty much.

... okay. Hoping the system is just really buggy at the moment.

Why did this have to come out before the endgame stuff was settled? Eek.
Unknown2010-08-14 02:31:54
Doing comm quests to add 5 silk lowered the price by +100 gold though. I haven't tried other comms yet.

If you find things that may be bugs, please BUG them.

I have this feeling bug reporting every last thing will just result in dozens and dozens of bug reports. Given that the system just started up, is it fair to assume the 0's are from a lack of stimulation as of yet, and engaging in the system should have an effect? Just asking now, before I start.

The tithing is actually ok, its just showing you unnecessary lines (which will be fixed with the next load). My encouragement still stands generally, though!

Since this thread is supposed to be for (hopefully) constructive feedback, I'll open another in a bit that will be all number crunching, to see how things appear to be working from the player side, and provide some information in case we run into something that is a bug, but we fail to interpret as such.

They don't always go up. I bought some milk without the price moving (although it did go up for the next batches I bought). The prices are definitely a lot more volatile, though.

I wouldn't mind the max commodity purchase going up from ten (what's wrong with the standard 50?), but maybe, like the announce said, the comm prices will settle to something more reasonable. It looks like the price floors have been completely removed, and that can only be a good thing. There's no real demand for some comms at their old price floor.

On a side note, I'm now totally glad I got that ledger in that one artie bundle. Woo.

Special question for the admins:

Was the time interval between tithes changed at all? Before, the time between tithes for a given comm in a given village was always the same. If it is the same intervals now, it would be easier to observe changes that affect a tithe. Otherwise, we'll just have to learn the new intervals as time goes on.
Jigan2010-08-14 04:40:25
This saddens me, as I need someplace in the area of several thousand eggs soon.

They tithe much faster, and a lot less. It adds to roughly the same amount over time however, I believe.

Threw 17 rockeaters into Angkrag and the gem price didn't go down. Should I bug?
