Commodity Crunching

Commodity changes are in, and we need to figure out what happened. I'll be throwing around numbers here for information purposes. Please feel free to join in or make requests; we'll see if we can make it happen.

Please always specify what commodity you're talking about, and in which village. Beyond that, everything's up for sharing.

Upon turning in 20 lumber planks in Shanthmark, this was the result:

QUOTE
SHANTHMARK

57 wood for 166 gold a piece
58 wood for 166 gold a piece
59 wood for 166 gold a piece
60 wood for 166 gold a piece
61 wood for 130 gold a piece
62 wood for 130 gold a piece
63 wood for 130 gold a piece
64 wood for 130 gold a piece
65 wood for 130 gold a piece
66 wood for 130 gold a piece
67 wood for 130 gold a piece
68 wood for 130 gold a piece
69 wood for 130 gold a piece
70 wood for 130 gold a piece
71 wood for 105 gold a piece
72 wood for 105 gold a piece
73 wood for 105 gold a piece
74 wood for 105 gold a piece
75 wood for 105 gold a piece
76 wood for 105 gold a piece
77 wood for 105 gold a piece

Assuming the interval between price drops is static for wood, it will drop for every 10 planks of lumber turned in. We see an initial drop of 33, then 25, so we might assume that each consecutive price drop from there will face another 25% shrink, assuming reduction is linear.

Next, a sample of prices on silk collected from Rikenfriez with 6 silk turn ins.

QUOTE
RIKENFRIEZ

27 silk for 245 gold a piece
28 silk for 245 gold a piece
29 silk for 245 gold a piece
30 silk for 245 gold a piece
31 silk for 192 gold a piece
32 silk for 192 gold a piece
33 silk for 192 gold a piece

Insufficient to suggest anything until I can get more.

Finally, there are gems... I turned in 55 rockeaters in Ixthiaxa. To save space, I'll describe the results instead of listing them all. Gem prices drop per every 10 rockeaters turned in. The initial price was 790. The following is the list of prices that gems fell to as I turned in all the rockeaters:

QUOTE
625 (-165 from 790)
490 (-135 from 625)
385 (-105 from 490)
310 (-75 from 385)
265 (-45 from 310)

This suggests that, at least for gems, the rate at which the price cut shrinks is variable by a few %s, with the last sample showing the greatest change (14.5% compared to 19-21%).

If anyone has details about prices increasing as you buy commodities, that would be appreciated.

More lumber for Shanthmark. Note that no one purchased any wood from them in the meantime.

And I just tried out fish for the sake of it, and because I knew people wouldn't be looking for all the trout.

At this point, I bought 10 fish. This raised the price of the remaining 265 fish up to 8 gold a piece.

As an aside: should I update my first post when I have more to add, or just make new posts? I'm feel pretty lazy about editing and will just make new posts if no one specifies.

I revisited gems in Ixthiaxa, and got a new pattern for price drops. No one bought gems from there in the meantime, and the change went as follows:

Not sure if that alternating pattern changes later or not. I could keep bringing rockeaters to Ixthiaxa to find out, oooor I could just try turning in gems in a new village.

More lumber, same as before, no one had bought any in the meantime.

No one's really going to be begging for heaps of cheap fish any time soon, but it's nice to confirm that in the case of food comms (at least), sustaining lower prices than previously possible before is entirely within the realm of reason.

I tried to play with cloth prices in Shanthmark. Moving all of the longhorn ewes from Paavik over had a marked impact on price (which I unfortunately failed to record). Of note, however, is that even after painfully bringing in 18 regular sheep individually, the price failed to drop a single sovereign. Not sure if this is reflective of the role of the village with the steers and ewes, or something unintended. Will check Paavik later for the same. In the meantime, I need sleep!

Doing the "Give 3 coal to smith; give 3 iron to smith" quest did not have any effect on steel prices as far as I can tell. So steel is going to be 500gp for a while, I guess.

Looks like it just needed a nudge to start approaching its new 'equilibrium' point (some of these seem a little high btw, though at first glance it varies by village and comm). I imagine it's the same deal with cloth in Shanthmark.

We'll have to test otherwise, but it's a nice touch, raising the available stock. The bottom line seems to be that the limit for what will "always" be available is pushed way up. Once everything evens out it looks like there will never be a situation of there being none of x commodity available anywhere, unless someone goes mad and grossly over-spends for the privilege of creating a temporary shortage. Really liking this so far!

That's one steel commodity. You'd need a fair bit more to effect a price change.

It looks like the price set is related to how many commodities were in stock at the time of the comm change, which explains why 3 gems in Paavik ended up at 1465gp per and 9 bottles of milk in Shanthmark ended up at 121gp per (lol).

My real concern will be with tithes, since buying commodities from villages will be so limited. So far I haven't seen any tithes larger than a single comm, bearing in mind that no comm I've quested for has tithed in any of the villages yet, and that we are conquest governance.

EDIT: Nevermind, Shanthmark tic'd and gave a whooping 1 cloth. dry.gif

Theoretically, if we get them to higher values in stock, they should tithe more.

One would think, at least.

So it's tough to tell for sure until they've had some time to stabilize / normalize.

Fair.

So, I got 85 more rockeaters to turn in all at once and play with. I didn't see any break in the 2gp-3gp pattern for price drops per turn in at this point, so in the next bit "..." just means it was more of the same per turn in. This is what I ended up finding as I went along.

This appears to have resolved itself now. I still saw this issue with bringing in regular sheep up until the cloth comm stock hit 200, then it started to have an effect. So either it was a bug that was fixed, or there might be certain comm thresholds that need to be breached before price drops ensue (at all). Paavik had no similar issue, though it did have more base cloth to work with.
