That was the point of the test, to do exactly what Egran did (only use paradigmatics) and show that with proper curing paradigmatics alone won't kill you. Sure I could have beat her if I used all my skills, but that would have invalidated the test right there, because Egran didn't use tarot or ents. He only used Paradigmatics.

Did Egran only use paradigmatics as well? That's my issue with it. Egran has skills other than paradigmatics too. At least, I hope they do. Those skills... they, you know... do things, right? Things that might have to be cured?

You can't test paradigmatics in a bubble. That's all I'm saying. I'm not trying to side with either end of this debate, I'm merely stating what looks like a problem with the testing method to me.

If all you need to know is "If someone only uses Paradigmatics... for god knows what reason... could they poochscrew you?" Then sure... sounds great. Just seems awfully silly to test that, though.

ETA: And, if Egran did only use Paradigmatics, then this whole thread really -was- just about whom could collect the most mushroom bruises on their opponents. Cuz I'm not sure anything valid could be gleaned from the original post at that point either, except that maybe further testing in a more real life situation is necessary. With multiple people of multiple archetypes. I certainly don't think it'd make any sense to try and balance a game around testing that contrived though, and any cries of "wtf nerf" are a bit premature.

I think I'll withdraw, it's too hot in this thread for me.

Yea, foresight will mess you over too a bit. You want me not to use that too. I can add that to the list.

What are the chances on foresight and switchfate, anyway?

I think I've only ever seen them hit once each.

So, I have a log of Geb dealing with Badluck just fine, and him not really trying to do anything, and a fight that went to a draw until I ran out of phlegmatic.

EDIT: And me forgetting to send my bashing beast back for my PvP beast. That was pretty dumb. "Your beast has no venom sacs." Screw you too, Lusty. sad.gif

EDITEDIT: And him leaving my corpse where I heartstopped. That was rather cool of him, and we don't always mention when people do the right thing. Kudos to Geb for doing the right thing.

Sure, it went well. You do know adrenaline cures aeon, and if you do not have aeon it puts up the quicksilver defense? Also, I did not use any healing on myself or your at all, outside of succor so I could show this. Oh, and you gained no wounds on me, no major wound afflictions and infact the only thing that bothered me that you did was BadLuck. Yea, he got to use BadLuck anyway, though I refrained from using what I had to show just how great he is.

Those last 20 seconds would be me out of phlegmatic. Congrats on that, and thanks for leaving in the timestamps, so you couldn't claim that the whole fight was like that. tongue.gif

Edit to your edit: Actually didn't know that adrenaline cured aeon. System definitely isn't set up to handle that, either way.

Pretty sure, almost positive, could have sworn he said.. he didn't care to fight under your artificial rules and wanted you to do everything and you agreed to that. So before you martyr yourself to much. Maybe what you really need to do is learn to read.

Also. This "post afflictions and say "I win"" is soooo like this dream I had 2 weeks ago that I shared with my clan friends the day it happened... I was in this peaced room (don't ask) and geb came running in and started firing off attcaks at me, which failed... cause the room was peaced. So I commented about his being amazing cause he attacked in a peaced room and his reply was 'It doesn't matter those afflictions would have killed you, the fact you let me enter the room and even try them proves I win"

Needless to say I woke up scared for one of 3 reasons... 1. my subconscious could formulate a :censor: excuse argument as well as Geb can. 2. Geb was trying to kill me in my dreams. or 3. I was dreaming about Geb to begin with.

He is a grown man, and can defend himself. So I decided to put artificial restrictions on myself anyway, and you see what happened. I can remove my own restrictions last time, and just go with it. Besides, if my healing was so poor as you two like to say, I should have been easily overwhelmed by his extremely competent work with the Axe, my inability to effectively change my stances, and my follow through on promising not to use any of the healing skillset but succor on him.

Actually I didn't say your curing was poor. I said it was poor month's ago when you posted your first thread. I said proper curing goes a long way and you decided to flex your e-peen and call me out for curing. Which as it so happened my curing against a researcher was quite poor (having only one line and for something you didn't even do), I suppose I could run off and make a thread about how OP researchers are to fit the pattern here, now, but I won't. I will just say that despite "my bad curing", you were unable to beat me. You can make any excuse you want about "oh badluck saved you. baaa baaa (sheep noises)" but the fact remains, I was curing off occasional diagnoses and we timed out.

Edit:: And I don't think you realise, that with every post you make talking about how well you handled badluck. You give us more credence. I mean if your goal is to tell everyone that proper curing goes a long way to handling badluck and greywhispers, you are doing admirably. Heck, you are doing better than we are at proving badluck is manageable, cause you have the little Geb fanclub who will see you saying "My curing handled bad luck, you guys suck" and then they will start saying it too. Keep up the good work!

Nine afflictions in 6.5 seconds by his log! No tertiary skill backing that up with extra afflictions. I want that with aurawarp and bedevil. Also, we better make sure that all wiccans/guardians can do something in the same league.

I would be happy if morrible gave afflictions with a variety of cures like even one of their gems does. Instead morrible is "smoke coltsfoot, add 1 point to temp insanity"

Focus mind cures 8 points.

Heck I would be happy if our ents were more useful (aside from sludgeworm) to people in the room instead of only useful if people leave the room.

From what I see in this log they have 2 gems giving passive afflictions including paralysis and vapours (neither of which hinder a person's offense though *cough*), 1 gem that seems to be an active skill giving afflictions (again chance to give paralysis), 1 mana drain, 1 ego drain... and then they have passive shielding and curing on top of that.. then if they are smart smart they have aurawarp, bedevil, and healing auras

Oh, right, this is a badluck thread, sorry.

Yes. I believe one is a technical beast and the other a technical manse dweller (or some variation thereof). Auctioned off ages ago, for I think over 3k credits each.

Akui: my main concern with the test you did is that it kind of tests badluck in a contrived vacuum. Sure, you could cure in badluck, so long as kalin only used 2 of his 3 skillsets. Which invalidates it for a test against Illuminati... and an Illuminati simply won't be adding wounding and what afflictions are obtained from their other offense(which is an awkward way of saying lol Illuminati != Templar ). They may be adding different afflictions, sure... but the situation is different enough from either actual situation that would come up against a paradigmatics user that I'm not sure of its validity.

Granted, this is just from a logical standpoint, I'm still learning more about combat and and all, but practical tests carried out in impossible situations which one will never encounter in a real fight in game seem like they'd give impossibly skewed data from which a sound conclusion cannot be drawn.

This was a good post and criticism.

The reasoning behind the nature of the tests I did with Kalin was straightforward. It was simulating what Egran did in the log with paradigmatics. As he is a templar, he didn't use the illuminati skills. This is why I mentioned this in the post, and why at the end of it, I stated that the test did not reflect a fight against an Illuminati.

So the situation, in terms of employed skillsets, is something that was seen- in fact, seen in the original log- the testing was addressing the OP purely, not the escalated nonsense of the rest of this thread.

Which makes sense. I just think if all Egran did was paradigmatics and none of the other skills in his (his? I can't keep gender straight around here, my apologies if I'm wrong) arsenal, then it seems to me the original post doesn't really prove anything... though then your testing is total valid in context.

Though I could see an argument made of "Well, if he only did that, then clearly it was overpowered" ... which would be fair, except that it was a bug which actually did the killing. Though, to be fair in the other direction, they didn't realize it at the time of posting.

I really wish combat mechanics and balance could be discussed without the need for several waaaaambulances for all the whining and the almost homoerotic circlejerk stroking of e-peens.

Not because it isn't amusing to watch sometimes, but mostly because it makes it very difficult for me to parse the topic for useful information.

I appreciate your honest and non-trolling response. smile.gif

ISSUESTRIKE:

One could do a test against a Shadowdancer where the Shadowdancer doesn't use fae or Scourge or anything except Choke and Lash and Toadcurse. But your test is pretty pointless. A waste of time, even. And you should always seek to not waste time.
