I love the generic "We tried this in the arena and my system could handle it fine" responses to these nerf suggestions.
Xavius2010-08-28 20:53:54
It's generally true, though. Vey is just one pennyroyal above slight insanity. He actually goes back to slight insanity when truename hits.
Razenth2010-08-28 21:03:46
Yeah, the log indicates that he probably could've survived that if he just kept eating pennyroyal like he did. He didn't, but only cause of a bug. It's bad luck that he seemed to have gotten smacked on every kata though, I thought that issue got resolved.

STANDARD CHOKE/BADLUCK COMPARISON HERE
Shaddus2010-08-28 21:43:27
Winjiro beat me to it.
I think its amusing that those people who say badluck/whatever is fine, use the same arguement as chokers. 'you just need to design your system to beat it'
the one time i sparred a paradigmatics user, I got a very nice ((lol, learn to cure)) tell when I walked out of the room.

Actually, that argument is "learn to manual," or at least it was when it was a room effect. It's also exactly what all the old guard learned to do. Choke doesn't scare me (but choke + pfifth makes baby kittens die coughing up hairballs). Badluck doesn't even bother me. Yeah, it's probably worse for monks and psions, but I'm not going to sit here and shed a tear for a monk getting screwed over by something.

I say give Lethargy back to Wildarrane!

OMG, you might have to actually manually focus body, instead of waiting. Heaven forbid you put some thought into anything, Geb. I mean it's not like you have actually been involved in real combat in ages, choosing instead to sit up high and preach about the glory days when you used to be amazing. I guess you could have forgotten how to do something manually when needed to do so.
I am sorry that you come armed with assumptions and theories about proc rates and how debilitating it would be if this set of scenarios happens and I come armed with hard data saying just how likely the chance of that happening really is. It must suck to be proven wrong by a scrub like me. I have already told you how to adjust your curing to avoid the balance stack, if it stacks on crystalplex actions (which I have yet to see anyone but you claim it does, and forgive me if I don't accept your word as gospel truth without some evidence) then I am sure something can be done about that too.
I am not however going to bend over and say "omg, Geb is right, flat out remove balance stacking" when it can be avoided, and coded around and currently is the only means to stop fast curing of insanity, preventing illumination from happening ever, and anyone trying to argue that's not the case is either a liar or delusional. So which are you?

I about rolled out of my chair laughing at the above...
Seriously, you may love badluck and want to crutch the skillset on it, but you should really just go head and give it a giant nerf (can take foresight with you, yes I hate dodging, and I HAVE the skill for it). Remove stacking and probably even lower the loss on it.. if you want it to be a reverse "dodge" the time should be comparable.. what is dodges loss? 1s? 1.5? And you cant stack it because you cant hit while off balance. There problem solved, congrats you have dodge in reverse now!
Illuminati were given the same treatment as old pyromancers, lets give everything huge levels of self stacking. For instance focusing mind can cure temp insanity.. but if it does it didnt cure any afflictions! and I believe jinx with stupidity would work wonders in all this. You get 2 or 3 ways to passively give insanity. And lets not forget all the balance loss things added (hekoskeri on a chance, sludgeworm to stop cleanse curing, ectoplasm, and badluck... lets not forget hexes can do epi and scabies too!).
I have an illuminati and I could kill someone with them landing very few hits and thats with tarot, which means I cant even jinx and all that to get huge numbers of afflictions. Focus on creating new options instead of clutching the old ones for dear life.

Sorry, can't stop protecting our skills.
Next thing you know we'll just get Pyromancer Special Report'd all over again.

Bug #13663 Resolution: Your bug has been fixed. The change will be active the next time the Fates reweave the Great Tapestry. Thank you for reporting.

it looks like we can illuminate people at less than massive insanity again.

So the big pile of 'can't beat it, nerf it' that t his thread is can go away now?
Gregori2010-08-30 00:19:18
It was heading to "going away" till you bumped it again.

Considering the fact that this logic works in Lusternia lots of time, why not? See: Shadowdance Choke
(I am aware that the Choke change was a bit more of a buff than a nerf, but hey, the intent during the change was a resounding Nerf Now!)
Diamondais2010-08-30 02:21:57
Okay kids, lets let the poor beaten dead horse die unmolested, eh?
