What big project should we do next?

We were thinking of just spending a month focusing on bugs. However, there also appears to be some "hot" issues that people would like us to work on. Alas, we can't do everything at once! To get a feel where people are leaning, answer the poll!

(If there's some other big ticket item that I forgot about, let me know and I'll add it.)

I want the trade thing and the family thing, but I have to say, above all, I want the family thing. It's something I've voted for every time you guys have asked us (and yay you guys ask us!) but it usually comes just behind something. sad.gif Family stuff plz.
Nariah2010-08-27 01:03:14
That's... that's... like Sophie's Choice! But whichever it is, yay!

Well, yeah, any of these would be appreciated! laugh.gif Just throwing that in with what Nariah said.

I won't vote 'cause any of those would be awesome.
Estarra2010-08-27 01:08:33
Bugs are winning! I really wouldn't mind spending a month on just bugs--just don't get upset that the other stuff would be held off!
Gregori2010-08-27 01:08:45
I voted racial revamp, cause while I would love to see family fixes, I don't think the family fixes are something you can cram into a month and have it come decently fixed.
Unknown2010-08-27 01:09:42
As much as the trade stuff is bothering me, fixing bugs should always come first.
Gregori2010-08-27 01:13:21
Fixing bugs should happen regardless.
Unknown2010-08-27 01:14:19
I went with Tradeskill Review, because it's just fixing a specific set of bugs that need fixing (even if they were intentional, damnit...)
Nariah2010-08-27 01:15:45
Actually, after consideration, I do have several questions.

What sort of depth and level of changes we could expect from each of these points? We have had a thread for each so far and we have thrown out a dozen of ideas per, too. Would it be blanket fixes or more in-depth changes? For example:

1) Tradeskill Review
  • Would commodity requirements be re-considered across the board (including or excluding retroactive changes, either would work in a long run)?
  • Would ideas for new skills suggested for a long time be considered (for example, Stationery for Bookbinders)?
  • Would Trade-specific issues be addressed (such as problems with wearing pins, word limit for books)?
  • Would new patterns, at least one per, be added?

2) Racial Review
  • Would weaknesses/resistances and other small tweaks be done and that would be it?
  • Would you be open to more complex additions such as the suggested racial skills, racial backgrounds, or racial evolution?

3) Family Review
  • Would there be a complete rework of the system?
  • Would there be just fixes to the most pressing of issues?
  • Would it be possible to add onto the Great House system/scrape it/replace it?

if by 'tradeskills' you mean ' making non-herbs tradeskills viable' then I vote for that.

otherwise, the order of things I would like to see is bugs/trade/family/get Estarra some nice shoes.

And by "bugs" do you mean bugs as in LISTBUGS? Or other known game imbalances such as tweaking monk mechanics and incongruences such as psychometabolism? A ramped-up Envoy process to address the latter would be much, much appreciated.

Not a bug, is a feature.

Of course! (I think we're pretty good with bugs, all things considered.) But focusing totally on bugs with a 'spring cleaning' mindset really plows through any backlog. Honestly, our backlog isn't that bad thanks to our bug bashing coders.
Furien2010-08-27 01:21:09
I remember last time we did this, our issues were stuff like the Ascendant system, Demigod revamp/essence shop, Domoth revamp, combat streamlining, forging fix...

Ahh, progress. cloud9.gif

These are all good priorities, but I'm not sure which is the most important. Only a few races need tweaking, I'm not sure what outstanding bugs there are, dunno what tradeskill review entails, and leaving the family system alone for a little bit won't directly harm anything, in addition to Gregori's point.

I just think unless you have a backlog of bugs, which you say you don't (yay!), that you should focus on one of the other options. I am not sure what is needed in tradeskill other than perhaps dropping the double commodities that went in before all the commshop changes went in making things a lot more costly and I have heard a lot of complaints from tradespeople about how they either have to double their prices now or give up designing/crafting cause it costs to much and earns too little.

Family review I really think is a longer project than 1 month, and racial review I think is something you could say "we can do this in a month" and meet the deadline on.

This is my fear with bug reports winning. The admins work their ass off all month, clear out the back log of minor bugs, and the only response any of us will feel is

And then, the Wickedly Named Plague got loose upon mortalkind and festered upon their dreams. Before a remedy could be found, the ability for mortals to go outside their mortal shells to dream has been severed forever. Thus fixing Dreamweaving by Deleting It.

Edited on request: Alternatively, Zenos was behind it all, like he always is, that bastard. So we trapped him within the Dream Realm and any who venture there are nomnomed on, and thus did the mortalkind abandon the art of Dreamweaving.
