Obviously, Lusternia needs space goats that rely on distance locks and slow effects in conjunction with damage boosting abilities and at least 4 ways of getting out of an unfortunate situation.

I've still been a Seren longer!
Should keep it that way!
And while things are meant to be grey, there is no doubt that "evil" orgs have it much easier when it comes to the justification of some of their actions.

I am contractually obligated to remain a Glom for at least 6 more months or until I'm released from certain obligations I've made up for myself.
Yeah, evil orgs definitely have an easier time doing their own thing compared to good orgs, though I feel like on a personal note, I'd be more impressed with an excellent 'Good' RPer moreso than an excellent 'Evil' RPer.

All I know is I have to go to Mag to find blood-covered strawberries.
And I didn't find those until I stopped needing to eat.
No, Serenwilde, I do not want my strawberries with powdered sugar.

You haven't been paying attention in Serenwilde lately. We've got more blood-covered food than ever.

I love Sadie's food! She makes the most amazing cave-fisher stew!
Though I would rather try adorath O.O
Lendren2010-09-03 22:48:07
Actually the cave-fisher stew design precedes Sadie.
I know that the blood-and-guts-as-food thing is "cool", but I got tired of it longer ago than most of you kids were born. So get off my lawn!

Celest, in particular, has always struck me as suffering from the concept outlined in this thread. Certainly, Serenwilde does as well, but not in the same degree. Serenwilde always seemed to suffer from having a mass of characters who have no desire to own up to the legacy the game lore would leave them with. While the "Cosmic Hope" fallout made impacted orgs "darker", being dark is not the exclusive jurisdiction of said orgs. As much as this is dusty, trodden, conversational ground, it bears repeating. Serenwilde represents the balance of "pure" nature, which is a concept not delineated by ideas of "good" and "evil".
Celest, however, is depicted in a largely "goodly" light in the histories, and where they are not, they meet with disaster. It isn't for want of potential, certainly- real history is full of groups rallying around concepts seen as "good" to themselves, going out and doing acts that would oft be seen as evil. It just doesn't come together for Celest, historically really. Perhaps if we had more detail of the original formation of the Holy Celestian Empire, which probably was not entirely peaceful, given the way in which it was apparently governed.
It is harder to play a "good" character than an evil one, assuming one is actually roleplaying, and not just being a nice player. There are finer hairs to split, greater roleplay obstacles, and in a good org, more IC opposition to maneuver around. And in Lusternia, often there are mechanical disadvantages to hindering yourself in an RP fashion this way.
So it makes it tough!
That said, there are some great historical examples of "good" (used incredibly loosely) personalities that aren't Mother Teresas and Ghandis.
Strongly self perceived "good" cause, irredeemable bastard.
Often considered good/noble, but highly aggressive.
Committed acts considered "bad" in pursuit of a "good".
A lot of historical figures we consider monsters felt justified in whatever they did by little more than divine mandate. After all, to their minds, they were on a far higher moral plane than others. So even sometimes bizzarely hypocritical acts were just, non issues. Celest potentially has this is spades.
But an org like Celest seems forever prone to having a lot of IC opposition to this sort of thing.

Snap. Akui's post makes me want to make a Paladin or Templar and roleplay character based on Saladin.

Im not sure if that's true; my only other really established character (on Achaea) was originally a goodie-goodie. I was only 14 or so when I started him, after all. However, once I matured a little, I tried rather hard to distinguish him from the horde of snugglers and drama-llamas which infested his city. Alas, this attempt led him to ruin. Thus the aforementioned painful, painful experience.
Late, I know, but what a glorious, glorious fall he had. >_>

Saladin was a great man. An inspiration to many.
What I personally would love to see though, is something more of a wide-eyed idealist. Not naive, but idealistic. Aware that there may be a lot of bad things in the world, but who never stops chasing Good for the sake of Good. Think "Quest" from Man of La Mancha. "And the world will be better for this, that one man scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage..."
