I took one on yesterday just to see what it was like.
Longest and most resource intensive mob fight ever. Won't be doing that again.

I wish I could bring my consoles downstairs so I could at -least- play something while Hand-grinding.

Heeey, do arenas fall apart like constructs if you don't keep them funded?
Furien2010-12-17 20:35:08
Only for you they do.
Unknown2010-12-17 20:36:22
Each spar/event costs gold, so if it's not funded, you can't do anything in the arena, unless you're charging a fee per spar... I think. It's been a long time since I managed an arena.

Sylandra can fund it too
Daraius2010-12-17 21:09:25
Who has time to spar when the world's ending, amirite?
Kiradawea2010-12-17 21:44:22
Those who've seen the world ending a ton of times already.

I wonder how the playerbase who've seen the end of the world more than say, once or twice, would react if the end of the world events actually came with a mechanical possibility for something to be destroyed. Mind, not the lost forever kind of deal, but the kind of destruction that it'd take some amount of work to rebuild that's central to their own organization?
What if Celest had a chance for say...a chunk of their Cathedral to be destroyed if they didn't do xx-part in the event. Or part of Glomdoring's underground system to cave in? Or one of Hallifax's generators to blow up? They're not 'permanent' losses since you'll probably have to pay x-amount to get it rebuilt or do y-thing to return it to pristine condition, but would the jaded people feel like they'd feel some sort of bigger accomplishment for participating in the event if they can prevent the loss or would they just view it as something they're forced to do? (Of course, this concept of being 'forced' to do anything goes in line with people 'having' to defend, so I dunno).
Unless people think permanent losses would be a better incentive anyway.
These are the things I ponder in my zen-like state of e-petrification. That, and I'm too lazy to start another thread.

Crow, Kephera.
Hilarity Angst ensued.
Xiel2010-12-17 22:05:41
No idea how that played out. Don't think I was around then yet.
Edit: Oh, and I was thinking more along the lines of property damage, mind. Things dying just sound griefy.

Uh, I'm not really sure I'd agree with either. That's been a pretty big part of Glomdoring's RP for ages now, and I know I've posted any number of times that I actually like (on an OOC level) how that whole situation turned out. It gave us a large organizational focus.
Stupid bugs, die bugs!
Kiradawea2010-12-17 22:49:19
The kephera killed crow because Glomdoring didn't want to join in on an event. That would be different, and could function as it would be a foreseeable consequence, instead of a sudden "screw you for doing what you want to do".

Your initial reaction was far from this, though.

Still wrong!
Glomdoring was quite happy to participate in the event; just not in the pigeonholed way that we were being 'told' to by strange voices who could not even speak Common and were clearly lying to us. Just like the Kepherans were lying to Celest, at the time.
Our participation was actually in terms of working to get Celest to break off their Kepheran ties as well, which they had actually agreed to do just before the event went on to the next stage and it was no longer about helping one side over the other.
We were still gathering information, working on all the parts, and participating in everything; we just felt that helping either side was a fool's game when nobody could tell what either side actually wanted, except 'random assistance for no reason'. I still feel like asking the 'Forest of No Mercy' for help without any reason should be a request that is looked at skeptically.
(Which would be 'screw you for doing what you want to do,' in fact, that was even the Illithoids' reasoning!)

This just goes to show that sometimes your initial reaction can be WTF and you can still end up enjoying it... which has rather been my point throughout this whole event discussion, no?
